IDM, Breakcore, Glitch, etc thread

I'm a huge Aphex Twin fan, and have been for years. But I'm also a fan of other similar genres. Particularly breakcore. Who else listens to these genres and what are you favorite acts?

If I had to give my top 5 in these genres:
Aphex Twin
Venetian Snares
Kid 606
Squarepusher
u-ziq

What all do you guys listen to?

Most of my favorite electronic music has been released by underground netlabels and demo groups. Some of those groups have roots in the late '80s, and they often developed new stylistic techniques that were eventually used in mainstream music. Of course, the mainstream artists who could keep ahead of the curve (like Aphex Twin, FSOL, Boards of Canada, Orbital) greatly influenced the underground scene, too.

The genres you mentioned in the title have mostly disappeared, at least in their pure forms. Most people now are making some variation of either Depeche Mode-style darkwave, pop-glitch, or ambient. Otherwise, they've joined up with popular artists and have started making generic dance music.

Venetian snares is awesome, especially the Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett album. BOC is also fun. I havent really listened to anything else in this genre.

Mouse on Mars and Murcof are my two favorites right now. Murcof leans toward ambient, but doesn't go all the way there. they're out of Mexico... good stuff!

yup, squarepusher and afx are the golden pillars of this genre. boxcutter is really up there too but has only one album... luke vibert aka wagon christ, yppa, wisp, spaceheads, and the flashbulb's alias Human Action Network & Acidwolf are also good choices. human action network's album has like 25 songs of crazy good beats. that would be one of my fav album.

Has anyone checked out Just a Visitor by Squarepusher yet? Holy molly, it's a big bowl of awesome. He went total Herbie Hancock with it. It is definitely worth a listen imo.

While I'm here, let me give a shout out to AGF. She constructs some great abstract experimental that has caught my ear this year. Westernization Completed is great.

Let me add Maps & Diagrams to the list. It's somewhere between Loess and Bola in aesthetic - very pretty but kind of clicky. Their last album 'Smeg' is absolutely gorgeous, as is their 'Perspect' EP on Cactus Island.

Another good one is Lusine, aka Lusine Icl. He makes complex and pretty tough beats; some even fit on the dancefloor.
