AKG K1000 successor: Give me details!

Listening to the 4th Headfi.org Podcast, you can hear the AKG rep discuss the K1000.

He says: "Right around the time the K1000 was discontinued there was a huge clamoring for it...I think we've done some work towards basically creating a successor to that product..."
Anyone with any new developing info please post here.

Doesn't he then suggest that the k701 is the "successor"? That was my interpretation of the segment. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.

I thought about that, but I don't personally think thats what he meant. Reason being that he then went on to mention something about 'not knowing where they would go with it, in development,' etc. I forget the exact wording though.

I bloody hope that the 701 is not the end can. Seems silly really. Not a bad headphone at all but come on.

Sony PFR-V1

K-1000 Successor?

A successor would be really nice. I'm also with 003 when he mentions the Sony PFR-V1. Having another device providing that delicious out-of-head soundscape would be wonderful.

I called the Sony store in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago. They hadn't heard of the PFR-V1 at all. If it's released in Japan in October, the US can't be far behind. . .

LOL

I listend to the pod cas last night too.

Its obvious that he was saying he believed that AKG did a good job of creating K701 as a successor.

This was based on his entire excitement over the fact K701 is in constant back order. AKG can't produce enough K701 to fulfill the demands after 18 months still.

No new headphone was announced by this guy. All he implied was that AKG Engineers always had new projects to work on. Nothing was specified.

He also never said or implied that the K1000 was a better headphone than the K701. All he admitted was that the best way to sell a headphone is to discontinue it. There was no admittance or suggestion at all that AKG believes K1000 is a better headphone. Whether it is or not, is not the issue, AKG never said it was better.

It is their end can.

If you listen to the Pod Cast he also stated, AKG's focus is in the professional audio industry. Not the audiophile.

He did say that AKG has taken notice of the success of K701. They have engineers working on projects. But considering how successful the K701 is right now, AKG WILL NOT BE INTRODUCING NEW HIGH END HEADPHONE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. They can't even fulfill the demand for the K701 right now.

Both AKG and Audio Technica do not need to have the best Audiophile eqipment, considering they make most of their money from Professional Audio. Honestly its fun reading what Engineers use in the studio and on tour. Often they have something from AKG or Audio Technica, of course gear costing in the thousands.

Couple thousand dollar Professional Audio equipment in very high demand > Some fancy audiophile headphone that only a few will buy.

Financially it makes sense for AKG and Audio Technica to continue to focus on Professional Audio.

For OBVIOUS reason. If AKG and Audio Technica produces the state of the art audio equipment. Professionals in the Audio Industry will definitely at least try it, if not buy them. Working on tours and in studios making hundreds of millions, money is no object. Making state of the art consumer product. Chances of a consumer spending even 100 dollars on new headphone is slim to none. The community that loves to spend its money on HIFI, high-end headphone is too small for AKG to divert their R&D away from Professional Audio.

Sennheiser and others may have phones "better" (completely upon opinion, debatable), because their focus is on consumer products. Same as Beyerdynamic.

Exactly.....the k1000 had pretty minuscule sales. Believe it or not, but companies are more concerned with profitability over making the "end all" audio headphone. Otherwise we'd have a k2000, R20, Orpheus Zeus about now Sennheiser and AKG figure the best profitability is what we term mid-range, but most average people would deem an expensive investment....the k701 and the HD650.

The K1000 has a near perfect flat response, excellent soundstage, and good measurements all around. How exactly would they create a successor to such a product?

Give it a flat frequency response from the 60-20HZ region and update it's 80s styling!

The K701 is the successor to the iBud.

I seriously hope that they have another top end headphone in the works, though I'm happy with the AKG I currently use.
