Works fine for me. ???

I'm guessing that the brief outage was probably due to the fact that Justin updated the pre-order list.

Justin - Please add me to the list for the following:

*Pico amp w/DAC
*Black
*3-foot USB cable

This will make a nice addition to my GS-X, SN #010!

Thanks,

Who was it that was saying the amp section is a tweaked AE-2? The AE-2 is a Half a watt and the pico is a quarter watt. I have to say that ever since I received mine yesterday that I think it sounds fantastic. 701s been sitting on the shelf for 3 or 4 months. I even thought I made a mistake buying them because I was using them out of the head jack of my HK receiver. It was no mistake, they sound fantastic. I know exactly what gain on a wire is now. =)

you'll have to pardon the newb-like question..but what is the significance as it pertains to sound, of that 1/4 watt difference between the two?

There's no difference in power between the AE-2 and Pico

Booklet with the Pico you sent me says output current:250mw

Your website says the power output for the AE-2 is: 1/2 watt

School me please.

The max output voltage for the Pico is about 8V
Max output current is 250mA (.25A).

power = voltage * current, so that would be up to 2 watts. In order to have an output of 8V and .25A at the same time, you'd have a 32 ohm load. This is kind of a meaningless number because no 32 ohm headphone exists that would take that kind of power, and the Pico isn't designed to handle that amount of power continuously.

If you have a 16 ohm headphone, power is limited to 1 watt by current (4V * .25A)

With a 300 ohm headphone, the power is limited to 1/5W by voltage because at the max 8V output, only 26mA of current is being used (8V = .026A * 300)

This is why I spec'ed the max output voltage and max output current separately in the Pico manual. 1/2W is a realistic estimate of max power without the chip getting too hot
