Jude never PM's me anymore. He just has his "lawyer" do all the talking. Like I want to spend my afternoon talking to some Ben Stein clone about the terms and conditions of my new restraining order. I'm so sick of those guys.

They don't really bother me that much.

Note to resellers, if they wanna pay me, I don't mind putting their banners at the end of every post I make. How's that huh?

i've had plenty of posts deleted, always for reasons i thought were ridiculous. but who cares. posts come and go. a post you write today - regardless of what is said - will probably never be read again after a day or two.

Bah i think it is fair after all. Jude have this huge site going and doing a lot for our community. If he need or want some money from it i can't blame him. I think people need to put their priorities at the right places, you love head-fi? then pass through the second post and read the rest. I mean head-fi is a great forum compared to lot of other audio forum. I say go for it and pay some if you want it off if not then do like me and try to pass it through.

As you can tell from how the posts are being deleted. We are not supposed to question this.

Anyone who has been around many forums, knows that when the advertising gets absurd, and all posts questioning how the site is run, lead to the demise of the forum.

It has happened many many times. People will not stand for it, especially when they question it, and have their posts deleted.

I can see this decision driving away many good members. It appears it already has started to.

Also, does anyone even know if this IS to keep the site running, or if it only to increase the profits?

This site is not large by any means, and does not even appear to have that much traffic. This site has only 60 000 members, and only currently has 850 people browsing it. Far from bandwidth heavy usage.

Similar sized forums like xtremesystems which are about the same size, run with ZERO ads in the forums. Also, most sites don't have many, if any contributing members.

Bottom Line, this will hurt Headfi.

FYI I'm a contributor and I see the ads...

Not that I'm opposed to it. Half the sites I visit have ads, so I generally don't mind.

I don't think the ads are that bad. At least they're related to the subject of the forum, and they don't obscure what you're trying to read.

A lot of websites are still trying to figure out a way to make a decent profit. Look at newspapers, which are struggling to stay in business because people under 30 are no longer subscribing. What's the point when you can read the paper for free online? I personally would hope that websites that I enjoy can find a way to support themselves without requiring me to pay a subscription fee. If that means more advertising, so be it.

Advertising is not the problem here. Everyone was fine with the previous level of advertising.

But now it is in the middle of our threads.

Advertising is fine, it is the amount, and how which becomes a problem.

EDIT:

Has anyone looked up the new companies?

I'm doing some research on some of the companies on resellerratings. and it appears compuplus has problems with grey market items. They also claim to be authorized resellers for manufacturers which they actually aren't. Also they seem to appear to send products which are different models than what they advertise.

DJDeals only has 5/10 rating, but only 4 reviews.

Shipdog however has good reviews.

But musiciansfriend? 2/10!!! http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Musician_s_Friend

Is anyone researching these companies before their ads are put up all over?

EDIT: Nevermind, now I understand what you guys are talking about. So it's the ones in the middle that's bothering you guys.

I was fine until the skyscrapers, which take up valuable screen width - and these new ones are just deceptive and overly intrustive - but I agree with Gnome. With the sponsors, contributing members and amount of advertising, this site is bringing in more than most of its peers. While I suppose it's possible, I highly doubt that it costs more for servers and bandwidth than the site brings in.

I definitely understand that there are real costs involved, but these are excessive and distasteful. This site was already advertising heavy, and now I think it's at the point where it will start hemorrhaging users to the other similar communities that have little or no advertising.

Maybe I should start ad-free head-fe.org :P

Yes, this is what apparently has the sky falling.

What do people think? This site and everything associated with it (which, God Forbid, might mean turning a profit) runs by blowing on ****ing dandelions.

Good thing people know how to be rational and reasonable. Instead of just blurting out nonsensical rants. Why hell! Nothing wrong with advertising for companies who screw people!
