Adverts embedded in threads?

Is this my computer not blocking popups effectively, or is this a new forum-wide thing?

I came across this for the first time yesterday but I wasn't logged in and I was using my iPhone so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

At first I thought the page didn't load properly but sure enough there was an ad in between two posts.

I was just making a thread on the topic, nevermind.

Do these ads really make any money? Who would buy headphones straight from the ad without searching for the lowest price?


EDIT: They're pretty awful. They have no location detection and so only pull up US stores. The Google ads at the top are much better, I've used them many times to discover new headphone stores in the UK, upto 4 at a time. This ads are more intrusive and less useful . They remind me of those ads which appear within text (eg. headphone), very annoying and always irrelevant.

They probably help run the forums and although they aren't nice looking I'm willing to skip through them.

Yeah, they are annoying but I understand. However, they do take away from this site in a strange way. Something just doesn't fit with them in this community.

Same here. I guess contributing members are spared.

Those are some pretty ugly ads, though. Isn't there a less intrusive way to increase ad revenue on the forums?

So, is there a list of exactly which ads are removed by contributing?

The in thread ads aren't too bad, but I'd really like to get rid of the column of ads on the right side...

i can see some ads in the right hand side column, but cant see any in threads, if thats any help.
