Thoes are microphones. It's just your brain playing games with you making you think they are headphones.

These are some pretty sweet microphones then, because I've never had a dynamic mic that sounded this good when you played music through it (and yes that's how I've tested dynamic mic elements in the past).

Have you tested these "headphones" you seem to have as microphones? I think that's a better way to judge.

I've heard that the K-series (Which you seem to have a lot of.) microphones aren't very good at getting rid of ambient noise.

Well, I accidentally wired a headset the wrong way for a beltpack, and was using the headphones as the mic. Does that count?

Ditto!
I would have given up after 2 minutes. Cause its pretty obvious that this other fellow don't know what he's talking about, or not the slightest interest in learning more about it.

Someone should create a company and name it "Reach out and slap someone". Sign me up as the first customer and I'll be the first to send him a premium "Reach out and slap package".

There was more than a little misinformation given there:

1. Stax Earspeakers are probably not like that guy's headphones (Which based on older threads seem to be dynamic) and do not all retail in the high thousands of dollars. Only a select few do/did.

2. Nothing gives off the "truest sound." Even if something did I don't think it would be the UE 10 Pro

3. I doubt a majority of people who post here are over 60 and even if we were I doubt anyone would give that much street cred.

4. I was not aware that the imod process included a different dac chip! Also that competes with high quality cd players is hardly a consensus.

5. Your open versus closed thing is just silly. There are a lot of great sounding closed headphones.

I mean sure your buddy got a lot of things wrong, but at last he came off like he knew something regarding what he was talking about.

And at least he didn't sound like he was 11 when doing so.

That is true regarding the DAC chip and the iMod, though I did have my DAC chip replaced somewhere else i just didnt go into the specifics. Obviously nothing is the truest sound for everyone.........it was just a fun discussion, and i think too many people are making too much of it. I'm aware there are plenty of good closed headphones, but i think my friend's insistance that open headphones was a marketing ploy is fun to read.

And I think you are making too much of something that was supposed to be fun and funny. This is one of my best buds......I would calm down with the personal insults towards me.

Very poor judgement. It may not make sense to someone who does not know much about electronics, but you know how Christians claim one thing and then science comes out and proves it otherwise? I believe there was a day noone could conceive that Earth was more spherical than flat in shape. (No offense to religious members here). At least I can provide physical proof, in mathematical and numerical terms, that cables can make a difference. On the other hand I would not trust this engineer any day because he does not have any assessment of information that is easily available and very trivial. How would then his assessment of information that is much more complex be any better?

Also Dave did not take the best approach in this conversation. It would have been much more effective to support every statement with links, numerical data, and potentially offering this guy to try things. Most likely with someone so ignorant, it would also result in the guy claiming that his stuff is better even though he'll hear otherwise, but there are better ways to go about arguing. The conversation does not fail to demonstrate how much credentials based on someone's profession matter.
