but the person who gave it to me gave me the reciept, so i can return it to best buy for $120. I am only interested in a good pair of gaming headphones, I do not care whatsoever about music etc. Let me repeat myself, i have no interest in listening to music witht hese headphones, just gaming.

so i was wondering, should i keep this 5.1 setup ( i have a x-fi xtreme gamer ) or should i return the barracuda and get another pair of headphones?

edit :

would investing in a barrcuda AC-1 gaming sound card be worth it just for these headphones? i heard that combination is quite good for gaming.

what's good for gaming is Stax.

but an A900 is a good cheap date that puts out lol

would the A700 be sufficient? or should i just go with the A500 / stick with my barracuda at this point. ($200 with shipping is a bit much)

if youre just getting this for gaming I think the a500 should be more than enough.

i've had the barracudas- briefly(lots of quality issues)

pros- great positional awareness
good sound on sound sources to either side of u

cons- lousy sound with sources in front or behind you. its really bad! the sounds to the side sound pretty good with deep bass but turn to face the sound source and you are suddenly listening to 5.00 headphones. i tried these in bf2142 and it was just horrendous

i say return these and quick.

Duggeh please stay away from Caffeine thanks.

Yes the A700 is a fine headphone matched with an X-Fi. Not as good as an A900 but worlds and universes better than that POS barracuda lol.

Best Buy's headphone selection is beyond putrid. I'd just keep the Barracuda's.. & yes.. The AC-1 gaming SC really kicks them into hi gear.. Should be mandatory in my book..

but seriously, i dont think you really need nice headphones for gaming, just get anything that feels comfortable.

Even though 5.1 gaming headphones get no love around here, some of them are excellent for positioning. Medusa's and Barracuda's position the rear sounds realllly well, especially the Medusa's. However, X-Fi's virtual 5.1 is convincing enough to where I wouldn't use those big heavy uncomfortable things for gaming sessions ever. Even the Sennheiser PC150's with the X-Fi setup properly are much more appealing to me than the 5.1 headsets.

I say return them, because they WILL break and they WONT be pleasant for long gaming sessions. That's just me though, X-Fi works wonders for games enough that 5.1 headsets loose the edge they may have had with other setups (especially with their horrible comfort, far worse than Grado's)
