Woody Grado Gallery

i don't know if this has been done before, but i would love to see a thread devoted to custom-made woodied Grados (not RS1/RS2/GS1000) - either ones that you made or purchased. would be nice to keep comments to a minimum, so the emphasis can be on the headphones themselves.

here is a pair of woodied SR325s. i purchased them from nate (n_maher). these are pics he took and he did all the mods. he replaced the stock grado cable with high-quality Mogami mini-quad and replaced the stock aluminum housings with custom maple ones. they look great and sound even better.

another pair of DIY woodied grados by en480c4 (a must see!): http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showpo...5&postcount=18

if you got 'em, please post 'em. thanks.

almost on par with my RS1. a tad less warm and not quite as smooth. it is brighter than my RS1, but with better separation and depth. the latter is probably due to them now being balanced.

MORE WOOD PLEASE!!

First and foremost I'm flattered that david thinks so highly of the headphones and most importantly I'm glad that he's enjoying them so much. They were a lot of fun to build and will play a big role in how I continue to mod my HF-1s. My HF-1s are already woodied by Ian (en480c4), who's a good friend of mine and currently look like this:

Those are Ian's HF-1s in the background too. I will probably end up turning another set of cups for my HF-1s for when I recable them because I enjoy working with the lathe just can't resist.

[edit]Ian and I occasionally get together for a little madness...

That's a nice little router table top you've made there Nate!
And it looks like you've got a lot of woodies planned.

It's amazing how sexy some inanimate objects can look.

My HF-1 after Round 1 of mods:

My HF-1 after Round 2 of mods:

They just need to be recabled and they'll be done for the forseeable future.

My old pair of 125s:

Working with wood is very rewarding. It's a fun process to be sure!

Does anyone have a pair that has been converted to closed cans? Or with caps for the screens? If so, how does it effect the sound?
