It sounds quite good. The AD8066 is the favorite of many listeners. The current draw of this configuration is about 36ma vs 10ma for 4841/6643.

So

2111/4562 = 40ma
8066/8397 = 26ma
4841/6643 = 10ma
Stock = ??ma

Gotcha. I'll first go with the one in the middle when everything arrives, evaluate it, then try my 2111/4562 to see if the drop in battery is worth it.

I made a typo in the power requirements for the OPA 8066/8397...it should read: 36 ma.

Stock configuration is about 30ma.

D1 with er-4S

Has anybody tried the D1 amp with er-4s ?

I've ordered theses (er-4p + s adaptor) and I'm torn between an ibasso or a move or nothing to go with my ihp1220...

I find the D1 to sound very nice with my ER4P/S, especially with the selection of "tubey" sounding opamps.

HiFlight, I appreciate your input on what op-amps to try out. I just ordered a couple each of the ADA4381 and LMH6643 and some AD8066's. Also ordered a couple of AD8610's to try out. This stuff is adding up $$$ quickly!

I am not new to electronics as I have done much solid state and vacuum tube electronic audio repairs, mods and refurbishing work for many years. But I am new to this op amp rolling and have no idea (yet) what each different op amp sounds like. So I find your research and recommendations at least a place to start as a reference point and you are very helpful like this! Thank You!

P.S. - I have not received any word from iBasso on my pre-ordered, paid-for, iBasso D1 shipment. Not shipped yet.
I may wind up cancelling my order soon, and going a full DIY route to build my own super headphone amp. As for a DAC I don't have any idea which way to go yet (DIY or higher end like Benchmark DAC-1 territory).!

Thanks for the kind words! It is very rewarding to enjoy the results of ones own craftsmanship. I have only built a couple of amps, but quite a number of my ham radios and related test equipment. I have much enjoyed not only the performance of my homebrew equipment that in many instances exceeded that of factory-built equipment, but also the challenge of building, testing, and most importantly, the anticipation of that first "smoke test" (turning it on for the first time!)

How about a groupbuy for the UHA-3 guys? I remember they sold it cheaper (149 if I remember correctly) as an introductory price not so long ago. I hope they can lower the price a bit if there is a consequant number of us interested.
Make that two ...going by skylab's review, the cheapest also happens to be the best for USB/AMP combo

I e-mailed iBasso and this is what they replied with

Thank you for your concern.

D1 will available again in next week. The new version of D1 will use some other opamps. Since we have not decided which opamps are going to be used, we cant compare the sound quality now.
