Best CD Burner - Page 2

Lite-on

The best by in a burner today is the Lite-On 52X. It is rebranded by TDK, Sony and many others. You can sometimes find it ad a rebadged Buslink for as low as $30 (Last week at Microcenter). With the proper software (Alcohol 120%) it can copy through just about any protection scheme, and it is blazing fast. Never had 1 coaster through 3 different Lite-Ons.

If you get a skipdoctor, be sure to read and follow all the directions. I.E. be sure that you spray the liquid on the cd before you make one pass, and AGAIN before you do the reverse pass. Don't skimp on the juice either, if you miss and don't get it wet enough, use another squirt.

If you sand the disc dry, that would be bad.

I've always used plextor. My first 'real' burner was a SCSI cart version of their 4X.

I've been using my current burner 12X SCSI for about 3 years now, and it is perfect.

I've never thought of upgrading to one thats higher speed. I don't want to get rid of my All SCSI solution

Lini, Grinch:

Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to pick up an F1 from newegg, since they're dirt-cheap. Any difference between the external and internal? I've heard the external is a gear mechanism and the internal is belt. [I'd prefer to buy the internal and install it in a Firewire enclosure.]
