kramer not edwood

sorry, just being OCD for no reason

It is possible to get 100% feedback again. I have seen sellers with 100% feedback who also have negative feedback. You just have to wait long enough and have so many positives since it happened.

I think I have a story to put all of yours to shame, unfortunately.

I am a huge Star Wars fan. To spruce up my cubicle at work, I bought a bunch of miniature Star Wars collectable figures call BustUps. There is a very high demand for some of the more rare versions, and being me, I decided I wanted to grab as many of the limited edition versions as possible.

I found the "Holy Grail" of these collectibles, which was a set of glow in the dark figures with a run of only 500, on eBay. I had already purchased some stuff off of the seller with no problems. However, when they arrived, it was extremely obvious that they were bootlegged. I contacted the seller and kindly informed him that I would like to return them for a refund. He asked "How do you know they are bootlegged?" I told him that it was very common knowledge among collectors that there were a large number of bootlegs put out with a specific "tell", which was Princess Leia pointing her pistol in the wrong direction... the glow in the dark versions did not use the same mold as the regular version, so the bootlegger, unable to get ahold of one of the 500 originals, just used the regular mold (major duh moment on his behalf). He said "No, that can't be right, I got these from a trusted source." So I sent him the link to the manufacturer's website, which, of course, had a picture of a figure that was very different than mine. At this point, all communication from the seller stopped.

After sending probably 20 emails that were not responded to, I lodged a complaint with PayPal. I told them that I was happy with everything else he had sent me, but I was not paying good money for a forgery. This is the point where the guy really screwed up... not only did he blow me off, but he also blew PayPal off and did not respond at all to their questions about the order. Apparently they weren't too happy about this and, instead of just refunding the money for the bootlegs, they refunded THE ENTIRE ORDER (I had bid on a few other things that were combined for shipping). This is not what I had asked them to do, I only wanted to send back the one thing and get a refund. But PayPal told me to keep everything for free.

Well, of course when the seller found this out, he suddenly was able to communicate. Unfortunately, I had done prior business with this jerk, so he went back and left negative feedback on every single transaction (9 in all) saying I was a scammer.

Long story short, he scammed me and got busted for it, but I'm the one who had my feedback screwed. By the time I noticed the negative feedback, it was too late for me to leave feedback... I had left the feedback open for fear of "revenge" feedback.

No. Refurbished usually means that is was broken, damaged, etc, then returned and repaired.

Maybe it sometimes works out that the quality of a refurbished item is better than a used item, though, but you'd have to go on a case by case basis.

^ that's some story. but really those 9 negatives are only equal to 1, as ebay only counts feedback from an individual user once, despite multiple transactions. so i would say you made out the better of the two. but i agree that the right solution was of course getting a refund and no negative.

revenge/retaliation feedback is a big problem on ebay. some say to never leave feedback first. a lot of sellers take this position. but if everyone adopted this stance, no one would have any feedback. it would be an endless game of playing chicken, in a sense. so that is not the solution.

This would seem to be the case unless you go to page one of the "read feedback" option on my account. If you do this, it looks like I'm a scammer on half of the transactions, since it only shows a certain amount of transactions on one page. Eventually I'll fill up page one with positive stuff from newer transactions, but this had ended up with me having to explain my situation to a few people who questioned my integrity... they all ended up accepting my explanation, but it's a pain in the ass.

yes. even though all the negatives would not be reflected in your feedback score, i could see how it would "look" bad. very inconvenient.

i've made some big screw ups in my ebay selling and i still have 98.9% positive; i never screwed anyone over, but i've had late shipping etc. people don't like doing neg. feedback; look for sellers with TONS of feedback, thousands is good, tens of thousands is better, and atleast 98% positive; i really just avoid ebay alltogether if i can, but just a couple minutes ago i bought this from a top seller cuz you just can't get a deal like this elsewhere

Wow. This thread is quite illuminating. I've had no bad experiences on eBay thus far, but recently I was a little leery about selling an LP to this guy in Switzerland who had thousands of excellent transactions and a couple of non-positive things that said stuff like, "Seller Beware! Scammer!" Now I'm guessing that they might have been revenge situations, because he paid me promptly and was totally cool when I wasn't quite sure how to ship to Europe. Sellers have always stated up front to me that they wouldn't leave feedback until I did, and I never gave it a second thought. Having picked up most of my current stereo system on eBay (speakers, subwoofer, turntable, cables, monoblock amp), I guess I should consider myself lucky.
