See, this is why I love head-fi. So many great people brought together by a hobby with just as many trying to find out more as there are many who've already been to this point.

Thanks sacd lover and takezo! I'm gonna look into the adapter more tubes! The gf's gonna kill me. haha

takezo, I suspect that you weren't aware of a soudstage improvement until the 250hr because a. you've more experience than my sorry self and b. your caps were different, right? Also, I've a feeling that Jack began burn-in for me before he shipped it back, listening tests and what-not.

trose49, its TRUE! i've been missing sleep lately and the senns are just so relaxing i was in a bit of a pseudo sleep and the images i saw were rows of the chorus! hahaha, yes, that's my hard evidence!

wakeride74, will do - but I don't have any other genres in my CD collection save "kind of blue". what genre are you interested in? i've also only one set of cans b/c a. i'm not loaded and b. i'm a one set-a-cans kinda guy (oh, i'm just fooling myself, i'm itching to get a pair of 880s or 990s and try out a pair of 701s - but with the mods there is no money left ). as for tube combo, i'm only using my second tier tubes atm for burn in. i can't wait to hear the philips and the NOS sylvania power tubes in play (fingers crossed!) - but having said that, i did listen to a little bit of Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus from the iMod and it was...different. different in the sense that the orchestral work sounds like its being played on stage at a symphony...whereas Pompeii felt like a nebulous artificially created space - i'm not sure i am familiar enough with it to describe this correctly. but i am pretty sure that another set of complementary cans to the 650s is what i need, because you're right: my set up has been heavily biased and consciously steered towards better classical from the 650. i will report back on the jazz though. if you would share with us what other genres you'd like impressions on, just post here and i will try to acquiesce.

The 6EW7's only cost around $5-6 a tube; quite inexpensive.

10 hrs. for them to settle and give off their best sound...wasn't impressed

i've tried the tungsol 5u4g, both top flashing and bottom flashing, and found
both to be very impressive...although for some reason, perhaps placebo, the

maybe my ears are shot...i used the .1 uF as opposed to the .15 uF vcap,
so i don't think it would make such a significant difference in sound stage...
but my best guess is that i used a standard wa-6 and a tube with significant
burn in to compare to the fresh modded version, so, initially there probably
wasn't much actual difference to my ears...oh, but what a difference there
is now...or my ears are shot...

burning in! tubes are hot. but will do! i was peaking in there today and it looks like jack did a very, very clean job (surprise, surprise). but you got it. tomorrow! tonight they burn in.

I find the 6EW7 in the 6 a little lacking in dynamics and detail. It does have that nice "tube" sound but I prefer a good 6DE7 like some late 1950's Marconis that I got from Canada. The 1.5 will add to the bass quality and from my experience will not sacrafice the high end. The Black Gates as noted, will add to everything from speed to pure quality of sound. The larger cathode caps will add to bass and should also keep the mids. A battery bias vs the caps and resistor would also be a good one, as I find it very smooth and free of constraints in frequency response as the cathode bias of the 6DE7/6EW7.

my impression of the 6ew7...it's less dynamic and punchy than the 6de7 but i'm
getting more texture, detail and a larger soundstage with the 6ew7 than the
6de7...of course, it could just be an isolated case with these particular tubes...
