Best Noise Isolating Earphones for a cheap bastard? - Page 2

What about AKG K81DJ? $55, good isolation, great bass mids and highs, and unlike iems, people see you have them on so they leave you alone, which is what you want, right?

Interesting comment.... I was looking at the K81DJs but rejected them based on other people's comments that the isolation is not great; specifcally, it is very easy to hear people talking in the room (which is what I am trying to get away from).

Well why go down that road? Why not just get a headphone for the price of both of those that doesn't suck?

You can improve the Marshmallows' isolation by doing some or all of the "Kramer mod." A search of this forum will turn up the details; the synopsis is that you just need to remove the supplied foam, then pull off the soft gray sleeve from the "post." Now the whole range of tips made for the Shure E2 IEMs will fit. Some are soft and comfortable; others are stiffer with good isolation. I think there are some other brands' tips that will work too.

A note of caution: almost any doctor will tell you it's a bad idea to put into your ear canal "anything smaller than your elbow." Using canalphones, IEMs, or earplugs pushes earwax too far into the ear canal and can lead to hearing loss and tinnitus. Regularly removing ear wax hedges against this.

'cause the cheap bastards unwritten motto is: buying two cheap items is better than buying one that doesn't suck half as bad

Just wait for upcoming Sennheiser CX300 rival(end of sept) and you willbe very happy with bass and highs with great mids. If not then buy JBL refference 220 and you will definitaly like these earphones.........
