radiohead's amnesiac- several years on

I listened to this album again after not playing it for at least a year and probably more.

Considering when it came out, at the time I remember thinking... more of the same in the vein of ok computer, radiohead so it's good stuff.

Coming back to it now, i am struck by how dark, stark and sparse it is.

Radiohead has a song called 'music for a film". This album could be titled music for a film about a suicide.

That's not to say it's bad, quite the contrary. It was really well suited to the dark mood I was in. I also think that in totality it may be one of their best most cohesive albums, albiet probably their least commercial.

This may be one of those albums that some 14 year old future Trent Reznor type is listening to obessively in his bedroom right now that becomes the inspiration for some great work 10 years later.

One of the true joys of really good music is being able to find something new in something you had but had overlooked.

That album definitely stands the test of time.

It's weird since it's essentially composed of things recorded during the same sessions as the Kid A material but not used for that album, but I prefer Amnesiac to Kid A.

That is a very interesting thought. I stil like Amnesiac espeically "Life in a glass house" and "Pyramid song." However, I must admit I still am a OKC fanboy, considering how many copies of that CD I have lying around.. Amnesiac has aged well.

A friend called this album "melancholy, but with hope". I think that's pretty apt.

I think Amnesiac is a hugely underrated album-- I was actually just listening to it a few days ago and thinking about how great it is even now. "You and Whose Army," "I Might Be Wrong" and "Knives Out" are still some of my favorite Radiohead songs. I also still think "Life in a Glass House" is one of the most out-there compositions they've done. I think in some ways I like Amnesiac better than Kid A because it feels a bit more cohesive to me, although Kid A was no slouch by any stretch.

I have always considered Kid A and Amnesiac two sides to the same coin. They could just as easily have been a double album, and that's what they are to me. I kind of shelved Kid A until Amnesiac's release, and once they dawned on me I listened to one or the other practically every day for nearly nine months. No album before or since has been so listenable for such an uninterrupted, lengthy period of time.

Amnesiac is hands down my favorite radiohead album. It is everything I like about music in a single album.

I would have to say Amnesiac is my fav album as well. OK computer tends to be a little more Mainstream IMHO.

what does that mean? radiohead is basically the definition of mainstream now.

I think I would have to ask you the same question.

What I meant was in relative terms. If you play Amnesiac and OK computer to the average listener, I'm sure they would get into OKC before they even begin to understand Amnesiac.

I have had several ppl burst out into laughter when I play them songs like Life in a Glasshouse and Like Spinning plates, when really, they are two of the most powerful songs on the album IMO. Hence the comment
