Words can't express how sad I feel right now. I was lucky enough to hear him live many times and even got his autograph backstage at the Met on a few occasions. I doubt we'll have another tenor like him during my lifetime.

May he R.I.P.

Sad day indeed.

That's crazy. He's been the top tenor for longer than I've been alive.

I remember hearing him for the first time in my granfather's basement. I was maybe 10 years old. He would crank Pavarotti so loud you could almost hear it from the street. "Ah," he would say, "what a voice!" It was a foundation of my musical education. I would later study classical voice in college. I never got a chance to see him live, but would dearly loved to.

Arrivederci, Luciano, a presto.

He will be fondly remembered: within the mid- to late-19 centurary Italian operatic repertiore, he was peerless, especially when he was young.
