importing from itunes

Okay so I have a 15 gb and A LOT of music. The question is (for the future), what is the best option for importing under itunes. Currently im using 192 MP3 but ive heard that 160 AAC is just as good quality and a smaller size.

Anyones 2 cents?

if you have all your music in one folder, you could just drag that folder into itunes, that would start importing all the music.

i would just stick with the mp3s. ripping all those cds again would be a pain.

"Best option", as in best sound quality. Right?
Then you should go for Apple Lossless..

I went from 128 to 190. Then somebody advised 256. Then 320. Then finally Apple lossless. I think it was called AAC lossless then. Each time I re-ripped. What else do I have to do with my time?

I used 320 with variable bit rate when I had a Nano. I still use that setting and am happy with the SQ and file size.

The best way is to go with lossless, and keep a copy on your computer`s hard drive, then encode to whatever lossy format, be it mp3, aac etc. to listen on your player. Lossless formats, popular are APE, FLAC, Apple lossless.

AFAIK you can't convert from one lossy codec to another without a serious loss in audio quality. If you want to go with 160 kbps AAC, you will have to re-rip your collection. iTunes will handle your library just fine as is, there is no NEED to re-rip, unless you feel the need to save the space.

IMO AAC is a better sounding codec; it's a little brighter than mp3, and I have my collection ripped into 256 kpbs AAC, which is more than enough fidelity for me.
