i think people whining about not having enough space on the touch really need to shut their claptrap. it's obviously not marketed to you. i'm going to guess that 90% of consumers don't have more than 1 gigabyte of music, and a small collection of movies. 16gb is a good size. if you travel and want to watch movies, get a different pmp that is marketed to you; simple as that

The audio quality is better than the 2G nano, especially for spoken word recordings. I'd really recommend a good IEM, because it appears that Apple might have considered third-party headphone users with the new iPods. It's going to require a really good DAC for a future iMod version.

FWIW, my 5g ipod sounds warm as noted through the headphone output straight into my HD650s. No surprise. When I use a sendstation dock to a RSA SR-71, the sound is improved, imho, in that it is clearer, with more punch and authority, while reducing both bass bloat and a little bit of warmth. I appreciate warmth, but using the amp doesn't take away so much warmth as to bother me.

My mental guesstimate of the new ipod classic is a sound closer to the amped sound of the 5g described above, rather than the headphone port sound of the 5g, if that makes any sense. But only time will tell.

A "small collection of movies" would blow right through the 16Gb barrier.

Really though it's hard to believe Apple doesn't know about the complaints about the size. I guess in six months when we get an idea of sales figures and Apple's response if we will know if we are correct about it.

To add in my 2 cent, the problem isn't that we're looking a product that's not targeted to us, it's rather 'it' being targeted at nobody. Touch screen is cool and all but only 4GB at a whopping $300??? Exactly, who is this targeted to? It's not easy for "Consumers" to plunk down three Benjamins for an iPod when they know they could get a 80GB ipod classic for $50 bucks less since they do video, too.

If you do the math on price per GB for 16GB touch, you will be paying about $2000.00 to match the 80GB. I know something like that will never come out in that price range but, just to make a point, you think that touch screen/wifi is worth that premium? Me think not.

but, take it from apple's point of view. people DO BUY senseless\overpriced gadgets. They see a shiny big screen and black gloss and then they see a metalic-2.5inch next to it, and most of them just say "omg, the black one's sexy. gimme"

Of course that's usually not the case in our forum, simply because a forum like this ISN'T FOR DUM USERS. We buy with our brains, not our initial instincts.

I was in the glasgow store yesterday and had a chance to see the new nano's up close. They are better looking and a lot smaller than i thought. In fact i was very tempted to get one, but the call of the ipod touch is too much to resist so im putting in a preorder for the 16gb version.

Was starting to think about the ipod possibility. Borrowed my mothers nano - brought it home to put on some tunes for her. . .

ITUNES IS A PEICE OF DONKEY S#!T!

I mean - why isn't this a huge negative in all reviews of the ipod? I'm sure the software works fine - but comon - only able to sync with one computer - Renaming the mp3s to some weird ass 4 letter dealios? And who the hell in their right mind would buy music off itunes if you can only use it on an ipod.

Smart on Steve Jobs for making it nearly impossible to switch when you do decide to go ipod.

Umm Im pretty sure even with the more advanced limitation, iTunes works great for most. I use it and think it works great. It keeps a library nice and organized. I dont see any other software that is SO MUCH MORE AMAZING, maybe they have a couple more advanved features here and there, but... And you can sync all iPod besides Shuffles to more than one computer, just pick Manually Manage songs. 4 letters for MP3? Im unsure what you are talking about? And they now have iTunes plus, which is a non-drm version of songs in higher quality so that you can put it on whatever you would like.

Now ass for AAC not being such a commonly used format I do agree. I have come across this limitations when trying to find an alternative player, but I am also limited that I am on a mac. So.... Ive only found a couple players that can play AAC and sync with Mac. Oh and those definetely don't match the slimness of Apple's 80gb. So thats a problem for me... I like slim.

He means the filesystem on the iPod.
All your songs are in a hidden folder (I think it was "\_ipodcontrol\_music") which contains 50 folders named "F00" up to "F49". These folders contain a few of your songs each, named "****.mp3" ("*" can be any letter).
This is supposed to prevent you from transfering your music back to a computer.

apple lossless is quite good as long as you are comfortable with the future of apple products. I am. It is very easy to convert to MP3 for Cowon products too.
