Halo 3 - Official Discussion Thread

My roommate got it at midnight, and then played about 11 hours straight, took about a 30 minute break and is back to playing. It looks pretty nice, he got about half-way through the campaign before he got bored. I'm gonna try to get some playtime this afternoon. From what I've seen the multiplayer is a big step up from 2. It looks like a nice balance between 1 and 2, so the play is quick, but not so quick that you don't have time think before you have to start shooting. It keeps things interesting without them just being frustrating.

Ok, spill it! Who are the die hards that are going for the midnight pick-up?

I did...but only because it's for my sons 15th birthday today. We had it on the kitchen counter when he came down for breakfast this morning and his face was a picture....It's totally killing him that he had to go to school instead of ripping it open and starting it up.
I hope he hasn't too much homework tonight as that comes first

I hooked up my fulll headphone rig to play it through the night. Wow, just wow. Whoever complained about Halo 3 graphics looking like Halo 2 needs a new TV, eye check up, or just plain hates Halo.

Man, I didn't get to play as much as I wanted to since I had some work due in the morning for a client.

I've already told the wife to plan on the 5.1 being cranked as I have to finish the fight

Ok, so I put in about 4 hrs or so last night. Definitely living up to my expectations so far. More on par with he first Halo. Seems like the designers listened to the complaints... much less time on vehicles already which is nice, although those ATV's are damn fun to drive! Graphics are probably a little better than Gears and gameplay so far is a blast.

My complaints? The Brutes seem much easier to kill in this game... guess I'll have to up it to Legendary for round 2

I wish they would have made the RB for equipment. I keep deploying equipment when I'm trying to pick up a weapon (pressing X)... guess I should change the config.

Other than those minor gripes I'm loving it... the two-handed third-person weapons are awesome and the added Equipment is a great add-on to the game. An index of Equipment symbols and corresponding effect would be nice though.

Ok so I caved in and bought it last night...guess the pre-orders were pointless. Best Buy where I went had probably 500 copies, and the already sold a ton at midnight the night before.

Anyway, the game is a blast. My brother and I played for about 4 hours last night on campaign co-op, it was great. My only complaint about the game so far is the sound of the guns doesn't have enough punch...it's minor, but it'd be nice to really feel the gun shots.

One other thing that I'm not sure about is the online matchmaking. Most of my online shooter experience is from Rainbow Six Vegas, which is very well set up. I never played Halo 1 or 2 online so maybe that's where my confusion comes, but I'm finding it difficult to get into the type of matches that I want...any help?

You know what, the only game that I can think of that has guns with proper punch and impact in regards to sound effects is FEAR. Pretty much every other game suffers in this regard. I wonder why so many games muffle the sound? My guess is that if you tried to make it more realistic it would get annoying. I mean, can you imagine what a real assault rifle would sound like in your living room?

The guns from the first Halo sounded pretty good but these ones do feel weak. The beautiful explosions make up for it though

Some games have decent gun sounds... Rainbow and Black come to mind.

I finished Halo3 under heoric mode yesterday.
thinking of starting to beat it under legendary..

but anyway. the new guns and machines are exciting....
brute shot became one of the best weapon there are... which is what I had expected... sword became significantly weaken...
the rod/ax is pretty fun to play with..
and the laser cannon is basically useless expect on some of the special circumstances.

Ok, so I finished it last night and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I'll keep this spoiler free and save my questions and complaints until others have had time to finish it but I will say that it should have been longer. It took me about 10-12 hours at most on heroic and IMO a good length game should be at least 20 hrs. It has plenty of replay value so I'm very glad to have it but I still think the first one was probably a little better (graphics and what not aside).
