I am looking for a working transformer unit for the old Koss ESP-9 electrostatic phones. Possibly someone has a set where the phones are no good but the transformer still works. PM me if you have something.

Dear Mr. X,

The HT-Unit for the Koss E9 electrostatic headphone is very easy to repair. Just dismantle the unit and than you will see that all components are connected to the motherboard with pins and clips. Since the thing is more than 40 yaers old, all these clips are oxydized, so take first of all a (digital) photo of the print and its wiring, than loosen all clips and squeeze the clips with a solid pincette or something equal. Do this with some care. After that push all clips to the right pins and in most cases things will work again. Generally this is the cause of disfunction.

In some seldom cases one of the diodes in the cascade-circuit that generate the HT of about 300 Volt is defective. So you can check them with the diode section of a multimeter.

Success!
