Cautionary FYI to the Grado modders...

As I'm progressing through an SR60 mod, they do not use a "typical" hot melt glue to secure the earcups and mesh grille screen. I used the hair-dryer method and a wood chopstick to pry apart the earcups... no problem, although quite a bit of heat was needed to get them apart. But eventually they did come apart, as th eglue slightly softened.

The mesh screens however were glued solid to the earcup housing, using the same type of glue. So, I proceeded to heat them further... no dice. They got hot enough to soften the perforated grille plastic, and nearly liquify the screen.

I was eventually able to remove the screens, but not without destroying them in the process. No biggie, since I plan on replacing them anyways. However, those of you wanting to re-use the grille screens, might encounter some difficulty.

Good Luck and happy modding!!

I did a model button removal a year ago, the buttons were stuck on using the same type of glue you were talking about, and instead of taking the buttons out, i ripped the whole screen out, killing by cans. -_-

but then i got a MS-1 now so.

What do you replace the screens with? Where do you get good acoustically transparent fabric? Is it all the same? Would you use your girlfriends/wifes, (or your own) pantyhose?

i havent touched the front driver screens, but the grill behind the drivers, i'm using a couple of wire mesh kitchen sink strainers found at walmart(wish i could find a link, but i'm sure they are easy to find), they've worked great for my previous projects

Ah I understand. There would be lots of cool options for that mesh. Was it black or silver?

silver, i dont have them installed yet, but i'm thinking of spraying them flat black, before i open up the sr60s

I'm using the perforated steel from some car audio speaker grilles. Its black and cuts easily with tin snips.

Getting the earcups apart wasn't difficult, removing the plastic grilles was the difficult part.
