For me it comes from doing blind abx test between iPod, creative, sansa and cowon players. I put creative players just a bit above sansa players.

To tell you the truth, the SQ disparity between my Creative (Zvm) & Iriver isn't that huge. The Iriver is more fun, more aggressive but detail-wise, they're about the same.

I've always favored my vision over my ipod...but that's just an A/B test. I do prefer the X5 over anything else I have tried...but then I am a creative fan for their innovativeness and quality screens on the vision M. If the video playback is anything like the vision M, I am first in line.

I have an older brick of Zen Xtra. I'd like something smaller and more portable - did the SQ go down later?

Dunno, but if you read around it's certainly the minority opinion. Most seem to rate the Creative line very well with respect to SQ.

It does seem to match up well with the D2. I think when the next suitable match happens, we will see price movement or rebates.

I hope these players have a line out so i can utilize my tomahawk! This player looks very promising to me!

x2. It depends on connotation, mainly.

Laid back/Smooth ----> Muddy/Veiled.

Akin to Sennheisers, I guess.

I really like the ability to expand my memory size through the sd slot. I will be able to use multiple cards if there is not enough memory. It will be really TFT color support. Can't wait to see the player in store soon!

Interesting. From the specs on Creative's page it doesn't look like it does. I see a standard-looking mini USB plug on the short side, which I assume would be for charging and syncing. I see a long, thin port on the top that looks like it might be a Zen Vision style dock port, but the specs sheet doesn't list it.

That would really be a shame if it only had the headphone jack. I love my ZVM and would enjoy a flash-based unit with similar specs. But if it doesn't have line-out I probably wouldn't be interested.

The line-out on the ZVM and the ZVW is fantastic. On the ZVW, especially, simply plug your stereo jack into the A/V Out port and you will automatically get line-out analog stereo playback. The sound is extremely detailed and well-defined and offers plenty of volume. I'd imagine the new Zen offers the same SQ.

I bought a Zune for myself and the Creative Zen 4Gig for my wife. When I get the time I will do a SQ comparison...for now the Creative hasn't even made it out of the box.

That's the SD card slot. There is no line out

Cool, I'll look forward to that.
