cleaning off fur from grado bowls?

hi,

i have lot's of furry roomates

grado bowls are like a magnet for fur. washing them makes the fur stick worse. on senn/beyer style pads i use one of those sticky tapes. the sticky tape rips the grado pads.

any suggestions?

thanks,

i use a lint roller, its quite delicate on the pads too, its for getting pet hair off your clothes, but i put it to better uses

Withthe lack of the lint roller, use scotch tape, roll it backward in the hand and just stick it ot the foam...

the lint rollers i have are made out of super sticky masking tape. they work great on furniture and fabric. they rip apart the grado foam bowls though.

i just tried the scotch tape and it works. it is going to take a lot of scotch tape.

quaddy, did you mean one of those lint rollers that has the prickly fabric on it(not tape)? i'd think the friction from that would also rip the bowls.

it seems that the grado bowls are more fragile than the senn/beyer type fabric. i guess the grado bowls are some sort of chemically moulded/blown foam. not the most durable of all headphone pads imo. they are better than the hd-414/sr-60 type pads. those rip really easily to me.

How about just not giving your headphones to your pets?

Yes, that would be my first step in preventing this issue.

A variation on the sticky tape is using painters tape. It isn't as strong as what is used on lint rollers and you can get them in wide lengths for ease of use.

well examining it closer i would say it is definitely a tape, mild although it is, i peeled a section off the plastic barrel and i am pretty sure its the 3m logo brand i can see in there.

doesnt damage my pads, but i understand what you mean, any tape with a strong adeshive would tear chunks off it

theres probably some old wives tale as to how to effectively remove it, they sometimes seem to work the best, you know like chewing gum on clothes in the freezer, that kinda vibe.

One trick that my wife and I use when getting the fur off of our couches is to spray it with anti-static then use a roller. Works great. However, I would be cautious in using that stuff on Grado earpads.

1) For pads that aren't 'ancient' common scotch tape will work fine, and is gentle enough to not tear foam off the pads. If ever you see that scotch tape is lifting or tearing foam off the pads, then move on to step 2.

2) For older or 'well used' pads your best bet is to just pick the hairs out gently with your fingers, or take it as a sign that the pads need to be replaced. The older the pads get, and the more they are used, the more fragile and prone to tearing and deteriorating they become. They also begin to become 'squished', which slowly changes the sound signature over time (a desirable effect for some, not so much for others).

thanks guys.

scotch tape got it all off but it took a while. i'll go get wider scotch tape next time.
