Which headphones!!?!? Help!!!

I have narrowed my options down to the Sennheiser HD595s and the Audio Technica ATH-A900s with not much difference price-wise between the two here in the UK.

Which are better for gaming? Which feel nicer and are a better all-rounder? I'm not an audiophile exactly but would like a nice set.

Bear in mind I do not have an amp, but do have a nice X-Fi sound card.

Which would you go for?

595's feel nicer, probably fit the gaming look, and are excellent all-rounders. Plus they are low impedance for your lack of amp. I would get them, oh wait, I already did.

I haven't auditioned the 595 so I can't comment on them. I do own a pair of A900 and can tell you they are excellent for gaming as well as for listening to music. The A900 are also low impedance and don't require an amp to sound great. They are also very comfortable as I can listen to them for hours without any discomfort.

Like warubozu I had a HD595, but haven't heard the A900s. I thought the HD595 was good for gaming and music as well. It doesn't need an amp to drive them and sound good coming out of an Ipod.

Another point to make: There is a £30 difference here in the UK, and I'd have to import a set of A900s from the US or another site, whereas the 595s i could get from amazon or whatnot and send back willinilly if any problems / don't like them
(+ they are the cheaper option :P)

Thanks guys.

I keep reading here that people love 595's for gaming, and it seemed to me (when researching this a couple days ago) that A900's were slightly less-loved in that setting. Both would probably be good, but as someone already pointed out - 595's are cheaper, anyway.

HD595's are VERY comfy & sound very good. I have not heard the A900's so I can't comment on them.

You have defined the HD595. Go for it.

sound 595s
gaming a900s
Thought the 595 are pretty good at gaming, just the a900s are better at it. A900 are better for movies. Music 595 wins hands down especially paired w/ a good amp.

595's no doubt.

Hi - sorry to hijack this thread, but i noticed from your sig that your 595's are 'recabled'.

Can i ask what the benifits of a recabled 595 over a standard one - and if markable - what and where could i get them.

I would choose HD595. It´s great all-rounder! For just everything. And comfort is also big plus here. I could use them for hours without problem. I also did hear A900 but for me is HD595 right thing. I just love them.
