New low-range headphones?

I'm looking to get a pair of new low range headphones- $40 is my budget. I was pretty set on buying the PX100s at $38 but I've seen on this forum people saying that the $13 KSC75s are better?! Also the EH150s are discounted REALLY heavily right now on newegg.. are these any good?

I'm not necessarily interested in portability. I don't even own any sort of portable music player at all, I'm only using these for my computer. So I should be able to get more sound for my money if I don't care about compactness right?

I'm primarily getting headphones to block out my roommate's music. I can't afford noise cancelling (I'm going for sound quality anyway) but if one model has absolutely no sound isolation whatsoever then I don't want it.

I don't really listen to music, I'll be using these for gaming, watching Doctor Who, and listening to audio lectures for class. But I do want good audio quality- I had a midrange pair about a year ago and I crave good sound again

I don't really care about advanced analyses like high points on certain frequencies or slight sibilance, I'm just hoping that there's one particular must-have headphone for this price range. I heard a lot about the px100s being the best, but like I said shouldn't I be able to get better sound for the money if I don't care about cramming all the audio components into tiny little earcups?

Thanks

I think you would be very satisfied with the PX100. I personally do not prefer the KSC75's sound.

You could go for the HD201's for an even cheaper choice. I'm not a fan of the way the Eh150's fit, but that is a good price.

It's the beginning of the school year, I have a bit of money to burn before going poor So I want to get as good a set as possible as long as they don't cost more than $40, I don't wan't "almost as good but a lot cheaper". Thanks for the encouragement on the PX100. What's the scoop on the PMX100? It's a few bucks cheaper- is there any difference except that it's worn behind the head? How to you guys usually feel about behind-the-head phones?

I havent heard them, but wernt the MBQuart phones that audiocats was pushing supost to be comfortable and work well for spoken word and gaming?

If you want cheap isolation, the JVC Marshmellows are often recomended here, but i also havent heard them. You can find them for ~20$.

I like my PX100s for portable and casual computer use. They would also be somewhat tighter on your ears than the KSC75s.

I didn't like the feel of the neck-band PMX100s, but that's just me.

I vouch for the QP45x/QP55x as good spoken word headphones, not necessarily gaming though. The only problem is that there was a price spike from the place we bought them from.

The PX100 have an over the head head band and rest on your ears. The PMX100 have a behind the head headband and unbendable ear clips to keep the drivers over your ears. Unless the tops of your ears are thin, the PMX100 pinch and are uncomfortable. I almost never use them. They are identically sounding.

I like the sound of the PX100 better than the KSC75. Maybe if all you listen to is rock the KSC75s are better, I don't know. There's not a huge difference and you'll probably be satisfied with either. If you're hard on you things, get the KSC75 because of the life time warrantee.

Well, you are pretty much SOL if you want one of the PX100's or KSC75's. Neither provide really any isolation. And they will leak out a lot of sound.

Your eH150's you listed are, however, closed, and do block out a considerable amount of noise. They sound honky and slightly grainy compared to cans at higher pricepoints, but for the very cheap price on NewEgg they'd be far worth it.

ok thanks qaz I just bought the EHs.. I wanted the PX100s but the deciding factor was my roommate blasting his crappy music behind me. On $3 speakers no less!

sorry to upset the apple cart here, but if it was my money i'd do one of two things

1) buy the JBL Reference 410, because they are much fuller, give far deeper and better bass, although they're not as open as the PX100's i admit, but they put a far bigger smile on my face.

2) just save a few dollars more, bide your time with whatever headphones you have now, and get the Grado iGrado's. they walk all over the PX100's.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...&Go.y=12&Go=Go

either way, my money wouldn't be going anywhere near the PX100's.

Yeah I read your iGrado review earlier, but they're a bit pricey right now.
