HD600, or HD595, unamped, for my Zen V:M?

What would be the better choice?

HD 595 unamped, because it has a lower impedance.

Is it that noticeable?

I've been using Shure E4Cs for years now. I just want something NEW.

Don't even think about using the HD600 unamped with a Zen M.

It's not that you won't get enough volume out of it. If you use the HD600 with the ZVM, the circuitry can't handle the load and it's gonna pump more juice out of the ZVM until it fries up.

Okay just kidding, it just won't sound full and rich without better amperage.

The HD600 is 300 Ohms.

Your Shure E4C phones are 29 Ohms.

. . .

The HD595 is only 50 (or 120) Ohms.

There are other considerations for SQ, but just on impedence alone . . . I'd choose the (newer) HD595.

The answer to that is easy, the hd 595 would be your best bet. The hd 600, will not live up to it's abilities un-amped.

HD 595, but don't turn the volume up past 16. It starts to distort pretty badly.

You're wasting the HD600's potential by not amping it. HD595 is better bet when unamped.

I personally have no problem driving my HD555 with any of my daps, without turning the volume too high. They sound better with my amp though, but are very descent alone.

HD595. Period.

The battery in the Zen dosen't last very long with HD600 since you have to crank the volume to like 70-90% of max. Not only that, but they aren't very efficient cans, you can almost hear the membranes moving slower than usual due to being underpowered.

Alright guys, thanks for all the help.

I'm in the process of looking for HD595s.
