First impressions so far are good!
The headphones also come with a nice small and sturdy case. It has a pouch for the additional ear tips (comes with S/M/L tips). I use the smallest ones and they fit well.
A case? That's just cruel. . .

Since you own bith sony 706 & 808 could you please tell me if the Denon's are better then the UE super.fi 5's you've owned.
I sold my second 706 a couple of weeks ago but remember the sound very well. But as for which headphone is 'better', I can only say that the Denons are better for my own listening preferences.

The UE's were my first step up from supplied headphones, and they sounded 10x better than anything else I'd heard up to that point. Nice big soundstage, but with a very warm bassy sound (especially with the 706) - and the vocals seemed too warm and thick. . . so I sold them (and then bought them again when I was trying to 'warm' up the 808!).

But the vocals were still too thick. I wasn't keen on the treble either, I can't even remember why anymore. And the bass was too much with the 706, which already output plenty of bass itself.

I know the UE's have 2 drivers and the Denon's don't, but I think the Denons are far superior in terms of sound quality. They're much much clearer, and although the soundstage is a little smaller, it's still perfectly acceptable and doesn't detract at all.

I'm just wondering if there's something better then my V-moda vibes. I really love them, but I'm always looking for something better. I love very ambient and atmospheric music.
I've never tried the V-moda vibes so I can't compare. But I can say that I find the Denons suit everything I play, and I didn't experience that 100% 'completeness' with any of my previous headphones. I used to have remove certain styles and just leave whatever suited the headphones!

IMO - the C700s are much better than the Vibes. I picked up a pair of V-Moda Vibes soon after it started getting some attention. I liked them but it was early on my canalphone buying craze. I quickly found out there was a number of canalphones that I preferred over the Vibes that were in the same price point not to mention more expensive ones.

To try and give you some perspective: On a scale of 1-10, I would put the Vibes at 6 and the C700s at 9. Keep in mind this is strictly canalphones I'm talking about and I've tried a number of them: CX300, C350K, JBL 220, V-Moda Vibes, V-Moda Bass Freq, C700K. Out of all of these, the C700s are easily the best I've heard.

From your scale, I would add to that and say the C551s are an 8.

I would say the C551s are on par with the C700s. I wish I would have had both at the same time. The C551s do impress me. I like that they have a smaller body which I can fit into my ear better.

As noted above, if the C700s are a 9, the C551s are an 8 in terms of sound. From memory, I feel that the C700s provided a little bit more detail.

Hmmm... you are making me interested in the C551s now. My JBL 220s are small enough (similar to the CX300) that I can sleep with them even on my side. The C551s look a little bit bigger but perhaps small enough yet. I'm really a fan of the Denon sound. I recently got a pair of D1000s and they are a terrific little headphone. Perfect for travel IMO.

Of course I need another canalphone like I need a hole in the head but I just can't help myself at times.

If you are a fan of Denon's, just wait till you break down and pick up a pair of D2000 or D5000. I went backwards. I started with the D2000 (which I was amazed how much I loved since I traded my HF-1 #23 for) and then had to sell my rig. I ended up getting a 3G Nano and a pair of C700's and have been surprisingly happy with them.

Also, while PK1 might sound more like some full size cans, some full size cans will sound more like speakers.

The PK1 doesn't interact with enough of the pinna to quite do the full job, while cans like my Ultrasone HFI700DVD sound more like speakers because they take advantage of the whole pinna of the ear in how they place the drivers low-forward.

I place PK1 and traditional cans in the same category though, as they are not IEM and do have an advantage of using part of the ear for imaging. They also fit that category for me because they aren't practical to wear during most of my listening time (fall out too easy). After sampling some a while back, when I saw the minibox-E/PK1 package deal I came close to biting. But I have to keep reminding myself that with my ear shape that earbuds fall out to easy, earbuds fall out too easy, earbuds fall out too easy...

Also, I already have some nice Sony earbuds that sound similar to Yuin, they came with the D-EJ2000 (although the Sony are missing the forward mids). And they don't need an amp like the Yuin. Anyone know the model of those buds? They are quite nice, if they'd stay in place. I started using them with my 2.5mm - 3.5mm cell phone cord for MP3 on my LG 9400 phone, because I can safely drive with them in. But, they live in the car and don't get used anywhere else, because I can't do anything with them in or they fall out (even with foam covers which hurt the sound but should make them sit better).
Yeah I plan on burning them in with pink noise for I guess 200 hours now (I usually only do 100). In regards to buds falling out of ears, I have the same problem with the PK1's which is why I sometimes switch back and forth with the Sony EX90's which are canalphones. I've been reading that SF5 EB thread that states that they're underrated phones and that they're like subwoofers in your ears. I hope they're the phones I'm looking for!

Soozie, it'll take me another couple of weeks before I get my iBasso T2 back. International shipping sucks...

PK1s falling out? Are you guys using the pads? Some folks bought the RadioShack pads for the PKs (all models), as they are a tad thicker and seem to keep the buds in place better. But I guess it's a matter of ear size or something, cause the PKs have yet to fall out of my ears. I guess with no pads, I could see them slipping out or something, but not with the pads on. Anyway, the RadioShack pads may be a solution.

Another trick someone did was put two pads on each bud (double coverage), which also made them fit more snugly.

Anyway, some thoughts on keeping ear buds in your ears.

Oh, the D2000s are definitely in my future. I actually have no desire to reach as high as the D5000s... unless I score a pair for a killer price, that is.

For me the problem is only in my right ear (I have asymetrical ears, apparently). The earbuds do stay in place with and without pads in my left ear though. I listen to the PK1's without pads though because they're such a pain to put on (talking about the donut ones).

Damn it, tstarn, I couldn't help it and checked out that Yuin amp...or the Minibox E. Please let us know how it and the PK1's synergize.
Will do. The Minibox-E is out of stock (must be another Chinese national holiday), so it may be a couple of weeks, but I am looking forward to it based on the reviews of it over on the amp threads. Some pretty high-level Head-Fiers really rave about it. It's got a nice form factor, based on the photos. Fang says they sold out of the Yuin amps after the reviews here on Head-Fi.

I just got a batch of pads/covers for ear buds via ebay (a dozen for $3) from China. I know what you mean about getting them on, but you have to get "tough" with them and they do eventually bend to your will.

2 weeks on with the c700.. some quick impressions..

they've really opened up in the 2 weeks with heavy use.. can safely say burn-in makes a real big difference (esp. for tightening up the bass, imho)

microphonics is a real drag though.. i have to clip the cord to my shirt with those headset clips... but, the cord IS more tangle resistant than most because of its material.. pros cons pros cons

i hate the fact that denon doesn't sell replacement tips for them.. tried the tips suggested here, didn't like them as much as the original tips.. i agree with soozieq, they interfere with the sound..

as for the e2 foamies, they do fit, but after lotsa brutal twisting *audible heart breaking*

gonna try ue foamies next.. hope it turns out well..

I just bagged a pair of very slightly used C700s on eBay....now I just have to wait for my US friend to bring them over to me on his next trip around mid November. Great to hear that the CX300 tips fit the Denons. I also have some tri-flanges (bought on eBay a while ago for the CX300)....so plenty of tips to play around once I get the Denons. The seller sold them because of fit issues....hopefully I won't have to do the same.

Drey, I'm really surprised you're getting bothered by cord noise. I found the LACK of microphonics a huge plus point. . . so much so, that I pointed it out when I first wrote about them. I wear them straight down with the earpieces slightly angled upwards, and hear no noise at all. I wonder if anyone else is being bothered by it? Anyone??

Re: tips. I know, it's crazy there are no replacement ones. I've had to go to ridiculous lengths to get some, including buying a pair of headphones I didn't even want

But I'm hoping that as Denon have brought out other models since the C700, replacement tips might be on the agenda soon. . .
