Athenaesword, I don't remember seeing the AH-C700 for $100 anywhere.

Were you were thinking of the AH-C551 - $99 off eBay or $119 from Audiocubes?

Are you sure you didn't Photoshop them on??

On a side note:
Here is amjiarka's q-JAYS/Denon comparison. Seems the Denons are still holding up well, considering q-JAYS is a dual-driver headphone and Denon isn't.

hmm so if i were to get at 127 (no shipping required), would that be the best price i could get out there?

thanks soozieq for the link! been waiting for a qjay/c700 comparison for ages. and i've been monitoring that thread.. can't believe i missed it heh.

Hey people Got the C700s after reading the rave reviews on here.. Great source of info, this forum!

About the C700s, I like 'em, but I expected to be blown away, and I wasn't really.

Hopefully they'll sound better with some burn-in.

Anyway, I had a question about replacement tips. The Shure foam ones that fit, are they the E2c ones, of the Shure foam ones for all the rest (eg. E3, SE Series) cause Shure manufactures 2 kinds..

Any other tips that sound better apart from the Shures?

Thanks loads.

Just ordered and received the Denon C700K's from Amazon. Already owning the Shure se310, I wanted to see the difference for myself.

Well, the Denons have alot of potential... A nice balanced sound with the perfect amount of emphasis in the lowers. Build quality is impressive...

The fit though...it's a whole other story. Just can't get the C700's to isolate well, which is a shame considering the sound they produce. Maybe Denon should give Shure a call to get some advice in this department. If the fit isn't good, the produced sound isn't worth a damn

The Sony EX tips fit and also the Sennheiser CX300's. The Shure tips that fit are the E2C's - I haven't tried them, but HeadphoneAddict and tstarn have.

That's a shame, but I guess they're not going to suit everyone. Take a little time to get used to them, and if you really don't like them, you can always sell them here . . . you didn't explain what you didn't like about them? Was it the fit, the sound signature?

What source were you using and what bitrate? Any information is always useful for other would-be buyers.

Yes, the E2c tips will work (takes a little twisting to get them on). They will run you $19. I have them on the Denons, and they are more comfortable to me than the original sleeves.

I've had my C700's for about two weeks now. They actually sound pretty damn good out of a 3G Nano. I was surprised to say the least. I can't begin to think of how well they would sound amped, but don't need to travel down that road right now. I'm happy with what I have. But I do need to get some new sleeves for them. I was lucky enough to win an auction on ebay and got them for $112.00 shipped.

Yeah, they do get better. I've been listening on a Trekstor Vibez for my minimal rig (I noticed your signature, & like to have the same type of setup as you), and it's very nice. I had a black 8gig nano before this, and for grins was just A/B'ing the Vibez with the Nano over the weekend. Man, glad I got away from Ipod to say the least. You may want to look into other high SQ small sources to keep in line with your taste for a minimal rig. The Denons just sound right, and can be much better than with the Nano!

Source does play a big part, and headphone Z can sound better with source A than with source B, while headphone Y can sound better with source B.

My 8gb 3G nano headphone out sounds better than my 8gb 2G using Senn PX100, but switch to iGrado and the 2G sounds better than the 3G nano. Also, the 3G nano dock line out is a little better for a bigger soundstage. I need to compare the 2G nano dock line out soon, as I never bothered to compare before because using dock line out didn't fit with the "smallest portable package" goal that I got it for. I tried it once or twice and didn't get the feeling it sounded any better on the 2G, or I would have stayed with it.

My 5G and 5.5G video's dock line out sounds better than it's headphone out, and it has a better soundstage than the other ipods via line out; but the Touch dock line out is pretty good too. But, hook up my PenguinAmp "Caffeine" amp to the 5.5G headphone out and all of a sudden the sound quality and soundstage are multiplied, and headphone out becomes enjoyable.

It seems that the newest ipods in general seem to be a little more quick, clean and analytical, but also a little dry with smaller soundstage in general, but the soundstage still opens up with a dock line out vs headphone out (3G nano, Touch, and a borrowed 6G classic).

If I switch to the iRiver H140 headphone out, the sound quality and sound stage jumps past all of the ipod's headphone or dock line out quality! It doesn't need an amp to sound good, but using the optical out through an iBasso DAC/AMP is worlds better than the very nice headphone out. The iRiver beats my 1G, 2G and 3G nano, my 5G 30gb video, my 5.5G 80gb video, and my 16gb touch.

Despite SQ, the only ones I don't listen to anymore are the 1G nano because 2gb is not enough, and the 2G 8gb nano, which I blew $249 for in July (stupid).

So, keep that in mind - source, bit rate, synergy between headphones and/or amp, all affect the sound.
