There's a 'Shure is yucky' thread? Seriously? I've never seen it!

I think this has become "the" Denon thread, mainly because most us didn't know the headphones even existed, so there were very few threads mentioning them in the first place.

Unlike the well-known ones which have several threads running all the time - the Denons just aren't well-known enough, or established enough, to have multiple threads running.

That's not a bad thing as it turns out, because with one main thread, it's much easier to keep all the relevant information in one place. And with all the great contributions from everyone, it's shaping up to be quite an informative read.

Hey - we all did good in 5 short weeks!

Sure, if you mean music in the style of Ani Di Franco, Jack Johnson, Pixies, Dave Matthews, Lily Allen, Rosie Thomas, etc...

Of course, the only bad thing about them is the fact that an amp is needed and that there's no isolation, so commuting with them just isn't efficient. I think I read that Yuin is working on an isolating version. I hope they lower the impendance, as well!

I'd like to thank everyone who chimed in on the bass. I now have all the information I need about the Denons but, of course, I won't REALLY know until I listen to them. Soozie, I'm in North London. I'll take you up on your offer to listen to your Denons if it's still up.
No, don't think you are crazy to think they sound better than Grado SR60s. I prefer them to my SR80s. I love the combo of comfort and sound sig. I use them around the house as my main headphones (odd, I know). Convenient, great sound, and I can still hear the phone ring (most of the time). I'd rather not have the SR-80s sitting on my head if I can avoid it.

I also use them walking about, and carry my Penguin amp, which is not that much of a hassle. They sound great with both of my amps. Again, they just seem to have a great balance of bass, mids and highs (and the best detail of any of my phones). The more I AB them with the Denons or Atrios, the more I like them. But I'm off topic. There already is a PK1 appreciation thread.

I'll be interested to see what you think of the PK1s compared to the Denons (both amped, of course). Bring them along, with a spare set of pads so Soozieq can listen to the PK1s.

Oooooh! Great idea. I forgot Karma had the PK1s. Now we can swap headphones and try them for free. . . YAY. . . pads? Are they big over-the-ear jobbies? I thought they were little earbuds.

I made a thread about the C700's a loong time and noone cared.

Seriously though I'm glad these IEM's are finally getting the attention they deserve, I've been enjoying mine for months now.

Ha - there you are!! I did read your comments about them, and then when I bought them and realised how good they were, I was really surprised that your initial thread had died so fast. I think the reason there's more interest now is because I compared them with the SE310, which people know about (the Denons were a bit of a mystery).

In fact, I mentioned your name somewhere in this thread (can't remember where) and said 'Thank you'.

I didn't have a lot to go on when I bought them, a couple of editorial reviews and your snippet - but it was a risk worth taking, they are wonderful headphones for such a reasonable price. I LOVE them.

They are buds, but they have soft pads over top, one set has holes in both sides, the other covers the driver. Try both, but from what I read here, they don't sound anywhere near as good without the covers (basically, those black soft things that cover ibuds). Yuin sends 3-4 sets of covers, but here in the states, you can get replacements from Belkin online or at Radioshack.

Glad I thought of it too. Not sure if a quick listen will convince you, but I can't get away from the PK1 sound sig/comfort thing. I realize you are not interested in getting an amp, but it could be fun to hear them.

Yeah I'm definitely bringing the PK1's so Soozie can try them out. They really just sound amazing for what they are. Will let you know how they compare as well!

The orange foams have a plastic tube inside of the foam, and one end has a larger opening than the other. Pinch the small hole end between two fingers (forefinger and thumb) and then at an angle insert one leading edge of the denon shaft or neck into the larger hole, and push hard with the piched fingers toward the ones holding the denon earpiece. The orange foams will slowly slide over the neck of the Denon earpiece, and you can mash them on. Don't worry that you have "totally flattened" the orange foam between the two fingers by the time they are on all the way, because it will expand once you release pressure.
Thanks. Your instructions worked like a charm. Have the Shure foamies on, and I like them a lot more than the Denon sleeves. Takes a little rough handling/squishing to get them on, but if you lead with the larger hole, no problem.

Soozieq is having trouble getting her foamies on, one of you gents needs to help her.

My Avatar photo and tstarn06 are proof the orange foamies do fit the Denon

I think they were always $127 on Bluetin... back a month or two ago when I was looking at ordering them. The problem is that with them being in Singapore, shipping was very high, and they also had a $10 'handling fee', bringing them to almost $160 total. This is what it comes up to when you request an email from them with their price quote. At that time I saw them on Amazon for $152 & shipping was included....so they're who I went with. Now on Amazon they've of course dropped to $132.
