Need help deciding on a pair of low-end Sennheiser cans.

Hi, I'm looking into my first pair of cans. I was looking into the Sennheiser HD201 and HD202. Does anyone know what the differences are between them, because they seem quite similar. Anyone have experience with them and want to give suggestions?

The HD202s isolate more, but the HD201s are supposedly more comfortable and have better sound quality.

Interesting, thanks for your input. Right now I'm leaning towards the HD201s.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Haven't heard the HD202 but I've heard that they're quite bad sounding, loose overpowered base. HD201 I have heard and they sound good if you don't mind a slightly bass shy and bright sound. I used to like them when I had them, I still think they're quite good for the price.

I like my 201s - distinctly tinny, but good for the price. Of course you won't get the best out of them until you've finished that amp, then you'll want some better phones to do the amp justice...

Curious, why Sennheiser? They don't really have a single "house sound" that covers all the headphones in their line.

Sennheiser kinda has a good reputation under their belts, so that's part of the reson I chose them.

201s aren't too bad but I found I absolutely had to use DSP to tone down the brightness and add a bit more bass. They're downright tinny if you don't.

Yeah...I went to one of those places where they have a Sennheiser rack with all the models and you can just pick up one and put it on and listen to the music, so I could directly compare the models with each other.

The interesting thing is...I went out planning to buy a 201. So I listened to it...sounded good. Then I put on the HD555 (which is the best they had there) and it sounded just so much fuller, more bass and it was simply awesome. Put on the 201 again and it was downright tinny...so bright that it hurt almost. I was sold on the 555 and ended up getting those. No regrets. You will most certainly feel the need to upgrade.
