3.5mm male to female cable

So im only just getting into this headphone lark properly and have been looking around to get an idea of all the bits i might need. One thing i may well need is a 3.5mm extension cable for when im home, however when looking around there seems to be nothing of a good standard, it all seems pretty budget. Are there some good cables out there? Or dare i say it, could i knock something together myself that would be better than most of what out there but possibly cheaper than high end audiophile (if there is such a thing in the 3.5mm world).

cheers

It's certainly very possible for you to put together a cable yourself and plenty of people (myself included, though I'm positively noobish ) assemble their own. However, based on my experiences, the first couple times you try something never come out like they should or you expect it to. When I started working with Cat5, the first couple times sounded positively terrible, but the more I do the better it gets. But, those are terminal-less speaker runs, quite a different monster from a mini-mini cable.

Grado and DiMarzio both make some excellent headphone accessories, including extensions in assorted lengths.
