HD650 uses HD580 drivers?? - Page 5

As I remember my dates are "02 04 07" on both of the drivers.

Ok I just bought brand new HD650s and mine has HD-580 stamped on the drivers as well.. what the ****??

Also not exactly impressed with the sound so far (through DAC-1). I don't think this is what I was hearing at the store when listening to these phones for the first time. What's going on here?

Houston....we have a problem!

The three people that have posted they've received 650s with drivers stamped 580 do not live in the US. This shouldn't make a difference as Sennheiser is not a US product, but I did notice.

I wonder what's going on?

I'm afraid to take apart my HD600. I'm afraid the drivers will say "k701" !

I'd contact the vendors to report the issue, as well as Sennheiser (by phone) to report the issue, and find out if they've "made a mistake in production" (may have been suggested earlier - didn't read whole thread).

If they're reliable vendors (official Senn dealers) they should replace them, or at the very least Sennheiser should.

But... I would not keep a set of HD650's, for which I paid the price for HD650 drivers - without regard to which sounds better (the HD580/600 drivers do sound better to many) - the point is... someone has sold these units under the assumption by the public that they would be receiving authentic HD650's. It appears... they have not... unless there has been some other "error" by the factory (such as identifying HD650 drivers as HD580 drivers) - which I doubt very much.

Check serial number

My HD650 says "Sennheiser 01.11.06" on both drivers. Also on the inside rim of one of the headphones there is a serial number sticker. Does your number match the serial number in the bottom of the box?

I wonder what a pair of Sennheiser HD650 or HD600's would sound like with AKG K701 drivers installed in them?
Just a thought.

I opened mine up and was happy to learn that they were manufactured on 27 July 2006. No HD580 drivers here!

Just checked the driver on my HD650. Has the word hd580 and below that the word makro.

Bought mine from Jan Meier end of August.

I opened mine and they don't say HD580.

Seems like Sennheiser has a problem on their hands. Is this a manufacturing mistake or something else? :/

Is there part number stamped anywhere on the driver? We need to match that with HD650 driver part number. There is a small chance that membrane is universally reused and they just variate coil.

mine is 2007 and says MINI SYS above HD-580
