maybe it's a good idea for headroom to check their stock and see how much of these headphones made it into their stock. If they find more, it seems valid.

Thus far one from headroom has the 580 stamp on it. So, it seems they are allready involved in this.
I did call him yesterday to see what he knew about this, but he's out of the office all week.

Can you change the thread title kwkarth?

'The great Sennheiser HD 650 conspiracy'.

So this started with Chinese sourced 650s, spread to Europe, and now it's made it to the states. I would check those cans for the bird flu virus.

But seriously, I have a call in to someone at Senn who I've been working with on a 580 warranty repair/exchange issue. I must say I've had around five or six contacts with Senn customer service over the past two or three years and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I think it's just a case of two different drivers sharing a common structural part. It would blow my mind if turns out they're actually using 580 drivers in 650s now. All we have is a post that says the suspect 650s sound identical to 580s from a guy who has never posted here before. Now that we have a suspect pair from a reputable dealer in the US, it's time to do some critical comparisons while we wait for an official response. I have an extra pair of brand new 580s with 600 grilles and 650 cables I could donate (temporarily) to the experiment. I also have access to a pair of older 650s so we could make this a three way comparison. Is Ouray, Colorado convenient for everyone?

As you can read in this thread, the headroom hd580 stamped hd650 was actually compared to a pair of hd580 and sounds exactly the same. A real hd650, sounds nowhere near the hd580, so what could this tell you............

Yeah, but that was from brand new member (AllanLee) who posted one time and disappeared. I find that slightly suspect.

Thats what the wink was for. Although it might garner some Senn interest, more than a post².

I said otherwise and I've been on every page of this thread, well from page 5...

One thing is for certain, TRUE HD650's sound totally different from 580's and 600's. Its very easy, IMHO, to tell that the TRUE 650 drivers and the drivers used in the 580's and 600's are NOT THE SAME, SONICALLY.
So, if anyone thinks that their 650's sound very similar to the 580's and 600's, they must have the 650's with the HD580 drivers installed in them.

What if it turns out that the difference between hd580/600 elements and hd650 elements is the construction of the baffle?

A difference in the size, number, or placement of vents in the baffle or the material they're covered with can make a very easily noticed difference in the sound of the headphone as a whole.

I completely agree. We simply want an official statement from Sennheiser to clear up all of this confusion.

I had originally purchased a pair of 595s back in late August, and when I returned them in exchange for the 650s it was about the 9th of September. I'd say the likelihood of our pairs were from the same batch is pretty high, but one can't say for certain. Also, the 30 day return period is really nearing its end, so a decision must be made quickly as to if the 650s will stay or not. I will try to get pictures of the drivers tonight as well.

I do enjoy the sound of my "HD650s", but now the issue has more to do with peace of mind than anything else. Heh, I really don't know where to go after this...Grado/Audiotechnica/Beyerdynamic have all been tried before, and they didn't fit my tastes. AKG perhaps? The K701 is seen to be the complete opposite of the 650 so everything is up in the air at the moment. This sucks!

I think sennheiser should clean up this mess, otherwise they are going to loose many customers. I know the time when i was about buying my first phones. After 5 minutes of browsing i got here and this site was the reason why i bought my 595's... This thread is not doing any good for senn and also for hd-650 owners. I know what will be the the first thing when i get home tomorrow. I'm gonna check the drivers in my HD-650.

For thoose who has the HD580 labelled drivers: Please could you post here when did u buy thoose senns?

The 30 day warranty wouldn't be invoked in this case, besides Sennheiser probably would sort you out directly if need be.

Szabi, mine are still burning-in.
