HD650 uses HD580 drivers?? - Page 9

I wondered why Amazon.co.uk had 650s for both £170 and £220. Maybe this was why!

I wanted to get an article of more genuine sennheiser sound so I ordered some 580's (Yes they are still around if you look hard enough... though the prices are ot quite as good but still a lot cheaper than the HD600)

Now lets get back to speculating the HD750 ok?

Impressive.

That's the second time in this thread Sennheiser has failed to answer the question. Pretty promising indeed.

Now what to get to replace these 650s.. sorry I mean 580s.

Suggestions? Needs to have a monster Ohm and wipe the floor with sennheisers.

no, the sensitivity for the HD580 and HD650 are the same. The difference in driver is supposed to lie in the diaphragms and dampening materials.

Looking at your picture.....is this "hd 580" stamp on the magnet part of the driver? If so, maybe Sennheiser did use up their last lot of HD580 magnets.....as since the sensitivities are the same, I would think that the HD650 and 580 share the same magnet. Just an idea to clear up all this wild speculation and hysteria. Really, having a HD580 and HD650 with me....besides my HD580 not having any of this printing, they don't sound identical. Don't let your eyes deceive what your ears tell you

Good lord. Do they sound good? Yeah? Be happy, don't worry about what is microprinted on them. No? Oh well, sell them and get something else.

Another example of how people on this forum claim to be interested in sound but are much more concerned with looks and/or status...

Does the HD580 sound good? Lots of people will say yes. But would you pay the price of HD650 for a HD580?

sound has nothing to do with it anymore if the manufacturer is giving us the attitude or trying a sham of ANY sort.

that's when principles come into play.

They sound better than anything I've previously owned. But as I said my opinions are purely amateurish so I haven't got the luxury to decide entirely for myself on a matter like this especially when I've never owned the 580/600.

Lol, in effect I have 'upgraded' from 580s to 580s. I should be pleased with this then?

Oh btw, 97dB sensitivity =/= 103dB sensitivity.

I'm amazed people think this is acceptable. Would no one dare to complain if they ordered RS-1s but got RS-2s by mistake? Its okay though the RS-2s sound good.

If you have a HD580, why don't you listen to it and the HD650 and tell us if they sound different. If they don't, then you know the Sennheiser rep is lying. Otherwise, you're speculating.

NO...you're missing the whole unit of measure!!!!! Both the HD650 and HD580 are 103 db/Vrms, 97 db/mW

I sold them, but I've said they don't sound alike.

Not the point though, if something is wrong I have paid too much/not got what I paid for.

I'm not arguing. It might have been a way to check.

Well, if you can't tell them apart by listening, I wouldn't buy an HD650 at all. (I do think they sound different, but I'm not the one obsessing about what's printed on the driver.)

Nope, since their sensitivities are the same....you can't "measure" them that way. But their differences are very easy to hear. Best way to put you and others with these "hd 580" printing at ease is to compare it to a HD580 and HD650 without "hd 580" printing. Neither my HD580 nor HD650 has such a printing....so I can't compare the drivers in question, but my headphones do sound very different: the main differences are from the drivers because the enclosures are exactly the same (I even put HD600 grills on my HD580s).

Is the printing on the metal magnet assembly part?? If so, and if it is some stock number for the HD580....it could be that Sennheiser did use the extra parts in making the HD650: I would think that's one part that has not changed....it's the diaphragm and possibly voice coils that have changed.

Its not 'obsessing', its expecting quality from 'flagship' cans.

I'd buy 580s if I wanted 580s...principle, don't say 'but 580s are no longer made'.
