You've been playing this one quite a lot lately. For somebody who only knows Camper Van Beethoven from Take The Skinheads Bowling, how would you describe their overall sound?

Like fast-forward about 25 years while still just as clever, but even more fun now. I'd describe it as having the last laugh. The new stuff is better than ever. They were great then, but now they're really having the last laugh. Now they are writing songs they only dreamed of writing in the late 80s. This is the new top of their game! ;)

The composer in the video you highlighted seems like a tortured soul, never satisfied - is this guy typical of this genre?

Do you have a link for a bad example of the same piece on prior post?

I haven't read enough about Pärt's personal history to be able to say if tortured soul is an accurate term to describe him. He has had several contemplative silent periods in his composing career where he didn't write even a single note and instead concentrated on studying music and figuring things out in his head. Finally he came up with his self-developed style of composing which this particular piano piece represents. It is a very simple style based on two voices and it was inspired by his mystical experiences with chant music.

Per request here are two examples of performances that don't really do it for me. In the description for the first one the person does however state that he was only playing the piece for the second time and apologizes if it feels like he doesn't quite "feel" the song yet. The second video is a bit better, but still the playing feels too mechanical and I feel a disconnection to the music.
