CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v80), quality = 100

Akkord- self titled album

Probably my favorite release so far in 2014

Album description off their labels website: Eventually revealed as a collaboration between experienced Mancunian bass producers Synkro and Indigo, 'Akkord' blurs the lines between junglist revivalism, smoky ambience, and suctioned dub, with a consistently engaging pulse linking the styles. Carefully arranged and achieving maximum impact on a proper soundsystem, Akkord have turned in an ominous and daring debut LP.

Iiro Rantala String Trio - Anyone with a Heart

Yes, yes, yes! Iiro Rantala's new album came out on February 28th and I learned about it last night by chance. I've seen him perform with his string trio once on YouTube (embedded below), but I would have NEVER expected him to record an album with the group. Hearing Iiro perform with the magnificent Asja Valcic who plays with so much emotion is a true treat. You guys have no idea how excited I'm to press play. Oh my gosh.

I've been getting most of my music recently from random exploration on Bandcamp, and this is one of the gems I've come across. Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys is a Boston band that blends multi-instrumental compositions, soaring jam rock, and a flair for extreme drama. Long form minor-key rock at its best. Highlights from this album (SteamShipKillers) include "Cataclysm" and "Feathers".

It sounds better than any CD release I've ever heard of the old Chuck Berry stuff. However, I still need to get the 60's and 70's ones. I think there are two more in the series that I don't have. Chuck still had quite a lot of hits in the 60's that aren't on that four-CD set, and a few into the 70's.

That one is, however, the best remastering of the 50's stuff I've heard.

Will get it this spring... thanks!
