Miles Davis - Kind of Blue [2013 limited edition mono vinyl]

Sounds pretty darn good; that 's all I can say. The pressing is near-immaculate. For those who haven't heard the mono mix, it's reaally good.

Riffing on the Kind of Blue recent post, as with so many, sparked my interest in classic jazz.

Back from a local record/CD store, my paltry jazz collection is growing. Here's what I just picked up and am listening to:

A little online research (Steve Hoffman in particular) confirmed that this original Atlantic issue (1311) from the late 80's may have the best sound of the many issues. It's also the cheapest. What's not to like

This is the '97 issue. Discovering the many shades of Miles Davis. I really enjoy the Davis/Evans collaborations including Porgy and Bess and Sketches of Spain. To my untrained ears, it feels like a marriage of classical orchestration and jazz vs the Bop/Hard Bop/cool jazz styles. After just one listening, I like the melancholic bluesy sound of this with orchestration...Gerswin....beautiful.

Next up for me will be Bitches Brew-fusion baby!

Buy two used get the third free....what can I find...

Am I the only one with this kind of sense of humor?

My favorite Streetlight Manifesto album overall, as well as my favorite album art of theirs. The whole Victory Records drama with their last album is a shame, and has kept me from buying it yet.

I was so tempted to pick it up, but I wanted to wait for the MoFi pressing. Seeing that you got it and really enjoy it, I might just go to the record store today and get myself a copy. :)

Yeah I have both the MoFi vinyl and SACD preordered but I was interested to hear the mono mix since I've heard good things about it, and since my local record store happened to have one copy left, I thought why not. It wasn't even that pricy, so definitely a good purchase.

All I've got is an old Mastersound gold CD of Kind Of Blue.
