Kenny Durham - Quiet Kenny

This album is truly a gem. I don't own it currently, so I've been listening to it via Spotify.  I've been holding out on purchasing it as I've read that Analogue Productions (while having just released the vinyl just recently) is in the works for a Hybrid SACD version of the original master tapes by Kevin Gray. The release hasn't been given a set date yet, so it makes me hope it will be out soon.

I have the XRCD mastered by Alan Yoshida and the album is indeed a gem – both musically and sonically. The sound of Kenny Dorham's trumpet through my current speakers on the opening track Lotus Blossom is one of the most astonishing things I've ever heard. Both the SACD and vinyl sound really tempting. It is quite possible that the SACD will sound even better, but the XRCD is currently half off at Elusive Disc, setting one back only fifteen bucks which is a steal for this stellar disc. If someone has an interest in this album it could be an alternative worth considering if you don't want to wait an unknown time for the hybrid SACD to come out.

Oh boy, that looks extremely tempting.. I've never ordered from Elusive Disc, are they legit? If so, I might just cave in before the SACD is released.. On the note of the album, it really is beautiful. My Ideal has to be my favorite track thus far. It really allows me to sit back, sip some coffee, and enjoy Dorham and his group just play. :-)

I order often from them, last earlier today in fact. They are a very trustworthy site. They are in fact the exclusive distributor of XRCDs in North America. If you go to www.xrcd.com and select English, it even takes you directly to their site! Their selection is really good regardless of format and I've never been dissatisfied with an order.

Thanks, TJ Elite. I think I might just cave in and add it to the cart. ;-)

I finally went out with the mission to buy a White Stripes album today, and settled on White Blood Cells. I'm familiar with Jack White and The White Stripes (it's hard not to be if you're at all into independent music), but I don't think I've ever liked them as much as I have upon my first full listen of this album. The recording itself is pretty low-fi and hissy, but the songwriting and variation in styles is great.

I do like it when I find good recommendations here! Anything with the tag "Hard Bop" is worth listening to, as Bop Jazz is well epic!

Listening to

One of the best YouTube quality vids I've heard. Sounds just as edgy on flac as on youtube xD. But still a very good tune, still it really needs a Tube to smooth out the Violin... which sounds almost of of tune

I take that back, I thought it sounded bad... I thought ok maybe it's a fluke you know but now it's lossy... it's like a v4 or something. Serious cut at 14k... damnit. This is why I hate using JPopSuki... some times you get crap

WBC is my 2nd favorite White Stripes album.  Elephant is better "Ball and Biscuit" and "Seven Nation Army" are about as good as Rock gets.
