I've listened to it, and didn't like it. It wasn't because Portnoy was gone, I just didn't like the production. It just didn't sound right to me, the biggest thing is that there is no attack on the snare, it sounds like its in the background,

Sounds pretty epic on my AKG Q701...

 

Anybody know of any other heavy classical type stuff? Something with huge dynamic range, doesn't have to be a movie soundtrack. I just want to try some classical.

I'd probably personally use the term orchestral instead of classical, but anyway something you should definitely try in case you already haven't is this:

Just give the well-known composers a try... Bach maybe?

1812 Overture on a decent label. The HD Tracks release actually warns you against extreme dynamic range because of the cannons. lol
