It's an interesting album with great musicianship, but it doesn't sound like Modest Mouse. Or would I recommend it for you. Davey does just fine in that department.

Sorry, I thought you had listened to them before; my mistake.

Some good stuff on the new one, especially the first few songs, but don't you feel the middle section is kind of bland? The whole thing is just too long, and doesn't really recover for me after the great opening songs until close to the end, with the rousing Clockwork and then Vernoona. Still think Strange Bird is a much better record right now, but we'll see. Haven't really fully absorbed this one yet. Been falling totally into Richard Buckner lately, with the great Meadow from last year, and then his first two from the mid 90s, especially that amazing debut Bloomed that I made a separate thread about, sadly not doing it justice as the thread vanishes into the sunset with only a handful of views. Beautiful record, especially in its original 1995 version on DejaDisc or Glitterhouse before remastering in the US by Ryko. But the next one Devotion+Doubt is great too, his big label debut on MCA, recorded down in Tucson at Wavelab with Howe Gelb and the Calexico boys and a bunch of other greats like guitarist extraordinaire Mark Ribot.

Yea, but you haven't seen that big dusty box he hides from his wife full of all the ones that didn't quite make the grade

Hey, how's that Bat for Lashes? Didn't she win the Mercury Prize this year? Or maybe it's just nominated at this point?

I have been liking "Moo, You Bloody Choir" more and more with each listen. No, I pretty much like the whole album. As a matter of fact the songs that I like, but that I am a little less enthusiastic about were "One Crowded Hour," and "Victoria's Secrets." The only songs that completely fail to my ear are "Thin Captain Crackers," and "The Baron Of Sentiment." (...there kind of in the middle) I would say that I like "Stranger Strange," and "Clockwork" the best. Interesting album, interesting band...

Actually, the dusty box is rather small and really, really dusty! My wife does know it's there and keeps telling me to put it somewhere else. It's filled mostly with CD's that I have replaced with newer copies, or that Pitchfork recommended when they must have been out too late the night before they wrote the review that enticed me to buy them. I don't think that there are any Davey or Viro recommendations in there!
