Non-FQDN Compliant HELOs in email from Head-Fi

Hey everyone, I just wanted to mention that I had a bit of a problem signing up for an account here last night. The reason was because the Head-Fi mailserver doesn't send a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) during the HELO of email transmission.

As practically every legitimate mail sender on the internet (forwarding servers) do this, it's common to filter spam based on the lack of FQDN. This cuts down on loads of spam.

Here's a log entry from my box last night showing this:
Aug 15 22:05:28 rowla postfix/smtpd[10404]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mx-rico.bmatter.com[166.90.205.67]: 504 5.5.2 <l3det-rico>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<jude@head-fi.org> to=<c0nsumer@nuxx.net> proto=ESMTP helo=<l3det-rico>

To get around this I just signed up for the account with a gmail address instead. Maybe this is something that could be sorted out on the server side to make things more RFC-compliant?

Thanks...

-Steve

UPDATE: This appears to be Business Matter's problem, so maybe the admin(s) for Head-Fi will have to get them to start doing things properly?

I own a part of the company Business Matter, which is what Head-Fi falls under.

Thanks, c0nsumer, for pointing this out. I'll forward this message on to the appropriate folks here.
