What is a gmod ipod? - Page 2

How is that iLink $2000? All it probably does is send the I2S signal (or whatever internal connection is used before the DAC) to unused pins on the dock, then converts it to SPDIF then to Optical. I don't see how it can cost that much.

Yeah, I'm wondering that myself. There is the circuitry in the base unit that cleans up the digital, and the little RF ilink, but still, 2 grand? There should be someone else who can port the digital to the dock for much less- be nice to be able to use an external DAC since you're on the hook for the amp anyway.

On that note, does anyone know what internal connection the iPod 5.5g uses? There is no page on Wolfson's site for the DAC it uses. The DAC is on the iPod Linux wiki.

Honestly, I would drop my X5 for an iMod with a digital out and a 120gig HDD...

Someone needs to take one for the team and compare the two mods.

Then that must be an iMod 5.5G killer since non-proprietary cable is still useable, unless they're planning on buying a v-dock in the future.

Yeap.

I was there with EFN and scottie to try out the Gmod v iMod v 4th Gen iMod side by side and the Gmod and 5.5 Gen iMod sounded the same.

I prefer the 4th Gen of course, because you would never run out of listening time (you can charge it while listening)

You can wit hthe 5th Gen too. Ken, or you, can add a charging connector to any dock.

off topic, but I really prefer the all-in-one form factor of the 4th gen.
