This detail was suggested but never explicitly stated, based upon the two postings I linked to above. The first suggests that replaced products will be "newer." The second suggests that this only applies in the US. Still, I may be wrong here because "newer" doesn't necessarily mean new enough to have the improved cable. I guess I got the impression from turkishdelight that they're carefully monitoring this problem and returns (in the US) and making sure replacements are newer, thus why wouldn't they send back the improved product? Perhaps they have a certain amount of backstock they need to go through. Still, I posted this domestic vs. international replacement policy on the above referenced thread... that your replacement will have the new cable if you live in the US... and neither Sugarfried nor turkishdelight corrected me.
OK, thanks for that, Dexter. I see how you're reading that, especially turkishdelight's response. The main thing that makes me doubt this is jhenriques' statement that his replacements had an even older manufacturing date than the ones he sent in.

Regardless, Shure's warranty and extra-warranty coverage on this is a huge comfort.

Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news (at least for us) is that jhenriques is located outside the US (Hong Kong I believe), which means that he's outside the scope of this replacement policy. So he's fair game for receiving older phones. Note: Sorry jhenriques, I guess this isn't good news for you

The (possible) bad news is that my replacement pair that I received last week was made in August 2006, and it was an E500PTH model. I'm wondering if "many months ago" could mean "a year ago," not to mention that the E500 is the name of their older model. I'm hoping that they continued to produce E500s after redesigning the cable compound, and implemented it into these later models of the E500, but I gotta admit that sounds like a stretch. I tipped Sugarfried off to this thread, so maybe he will post a clarification on this replacement policy for us Americans.

This could also be due to haircare or skincare products you use. I had the coating come off of my Oakley sunglasses and Oakley stated that certain hair gels/sprays can cause this to happen. Not sure if this is a possibility in this case but it seems like a possibility.
