Hi Oliver - how do you feel about the Cantate now you've had it 6+ months - I trust you've given it a good workout?

yes, it's not a huge difference but it is, i'm looking forward to this amp too
Hi Eroarex - how has yours gone?

I am looking at getting a Cantate too, however I'm a complete newbie when it comes to things Can related... As I mentioned in my post on the Entire Meier Audio Headphone Amp Line Compared thread I'm actually looking at an original Cantate not the new Cantate.2 model.

Many TIA for any feedback...

I'm also considering getting a Cantate (the .2). I'm not reading much about though it in recent threads anymore though...
Wondering why that is, the reviews I've read about it are positive, and owners seem to like it.

I'm looking to use it out of my pc's USB (Foobar, FLAC) and simultaneously hook it up to my Marantz SA-7001 cdp through RCA using the cdp's internal DAC.

Cans are HD595 for now, but I'd like to get some more, maybe DT880's or HD650's.

Some artists I listen to (in no particular order): Within Temptation, Evanescence, Dido, Alanis Morissette, Queen, Dire Straits, K's Choice, R.E.M., Offspring, Live. Mostly pop/rock and a lot of female vocals.

For those who are wondering whether the Cantate will drive the various AKGs:

- I have it on good authority that the Cantate is 'bare minimum' for the 70* : you wont get everything these cans can produce, but it will give you an idea of what they are capable of.

- if my Topaz drives my 501s to 90% of the sound I get from my 45W per channel integrated, I expect that the Cantate would do a much better job - the Topaz is more DAC than amp, albeit a surprisingly grunty DAC.

- I firmly believe that the 601 is the hardest of the 3 series to drive - dont have any proof beyond my ears that this is the case, but I would have to hear them from the Cantate to be able to say whether it will drive them properly or not. In my experience, the Stello HP100 remains the only hp amp to drive these cans like they were Grados : instant response at every click of the volume dial. Still, if folk are reporting that they can drive some of the more notorious Beyers with the Cantate, its definitely worth a shot.

Does anyone have any experience with the DT880 (2005, stock) on the Cantate?

Well, I've finally pulled the trigger and ordered one.

I'll post my findings once I've experienced it for a good amount of listening time.
Now for the waiting part...........

sorry to bump an old thread, but didn't want to start a new thread about the cantate 2.

(long time lurker, first time poster here, btw so please go easy on me)

I've tried the cantate2 and think it sounds fantastic, unfortunately, there's no way to use this as a pre-amp, is that correct?

Right now, I have an el-cheapo soundblaster digital music SX box and i use that to feed into a pair of M-audio BX5a active speakers.

So if i got the cantate and I connect it with my PC with usb line, sound will be fed into the cantate whenever it is on, as opposed to feeding to the SB crapbox and into my speakers, is that what happens?

No way to feed it into the M-audio speakers, huh?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
