Can you lose face by owning fake Shures on head-fi?
Did you try to take the metal ring out?

(Not my pic, found it on the web, though, I took mine off to look inside the armature )

I own the E4's and I have extra ear nozzles that came inside the original package. if you can't do that, then they are 100% fake. Personally, I think yours are fake anyways.. they do look too glossy and the head of the earphone itself is to "fat".

1) As mentioned earlier, the slope on the silver portion that leads to the nozzle does not have as sharp a gradient (ie more shallow) on the real deal vs. your pics.
2) The real ones are half matte and half glossy, not all glossy.
3) The "R" on the Shure logo on the real ones has a long segment that extends below the level of the other letters and is in contact with the "E". The logo is not correct on the IEMs you picked up.
4) 3 digit manufacturer code should be present on the headphone plug. Check yours.

If I was in the same position, I suppose the curiosity of what the real ones sounded like would lead me to...well...some real ones.

hell yeh i agree with this its a dead give away that they are faake just considering the shure logo, possibly the finest give away known to man,you should get some real e4g and see if you got a good deal or a duff deal,if they sound superb then cant really complain but its always nice to have the real thing

Fake E4C

I just a pair of E4C Shure earphones they are white on top and black on the bottom. I have seen a manuel for the E4C and the metal part screws apart so you can replace the nozzle if necessary. The ones that I purchased from ebay do not come apart the picture in the ebay listing looks like your picture but when i recieved them in the mail they were white on the top and white on the bottom. And they are very glossy. I think they are fake.

take some pics and upload em, i wanna see!

Is it possible that the more recent ones look aesthetically different from the original ones? Maybe a redesign?

Email Shure and upload the photos. That's the only way to be shure. (Gawd, that was cheesy. )

fake

The cable splitter looks like the one on the e2c the real E4 has a thinner splitter

there was another thread on this issue a while back, the guy found out they were fake when they cracked open and he saw they had a dynamic driver inside,
there was a nice picture with the speaker pulled out,

hmmm

i sent a msg to the seller asking them if they are fake with a link to this thread, let see what happens!

I remember with the sennheiser CX300's on ebay even the seller was fooled by the fakes he had been shipped, so you never know! In that case the guy got a refund, so you may (may) get lucky.

regarding this link http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Shure-E4-Ear...QQcmdZViewItem

It comes with a pouch (all the retail ones have that hard shell winding case) and no fit kit! Plus, a seller with 4 feedback selling $200 iems for $32, come on. Be real!

good luck!

You should contact your buyer if you got them off ebay, and go after him. I doubt he would like to have FAKE FAKE FAKE ALERT all across his feedback. I would ask for a refund for shure! (pun intended)

They Shure look cheesy, for sure.

Thought the 4 series were grey.

FeedMeTrance, were you able to unscrew the nozzle?
