Are These Shure E4G's Fake? - Page 2

The real ones are split "in half", top part matte and bottom part glossy. Yours look fake to me, based on this assumption.

On my e2c, the small 90 degree plug had a date code number stamped on it. It is also my assumption that the e4c had the same thing.

Can e4c owners confirm for the OP whether or not their real e4g/c have this?

there was a guy last week who posted pics of his fake e4 that split apart. So... be careful, in addition to sonic flaws, apparently the fakes may not be as durable as the reals too.

I believe all Shure earphones have the manufacturing date stamped on the plug. My E4C definitely had it.

to the OP... Does your e4G in question have a number stamped on the 90 degree plug? If it does not, then its a fake. Note its possible the cloners have copied this aspect too, so just because it does have a date code, does not necessarily mean its legit.

edit...
heres a link to that other thread.

Definitely fake. I've just had a close look at my E4 and compared them to your pics. Couple of differences:
1) As mentioned earlier, the slope on the silver portion that leads to the nozzle does not have as sharp a gradient (ie more shallow) on the real deal vs. your pics.
2) The real ones are half matte and half glossy, not all glossy.
3) The "R" on the Shure logo on the real ones has a long segment that extends below the level of the other letters and is in contact with the "E". The logo is not correct on the IEMs you picked up.
4) 3 digit manufacturer code should be present on the headphone plug. Check yours.

If I was in the same position, I suppose the curiosity of what the real ones sounded like would lead me to...well...some real ones.

No date code...
Definitely fake. No date on the plug, full gloss instead of half gloss/half matte and the housings appear to be larger (unless he has small tips on).

And compare the section where the wires split. FeedMeTrance's pair is rectangular whereas authentic Shures are circular.
