I see trose49 is a happy camper:

You gotta love those comments like "why not get a 'real' source instead?"

I really hope the upcoming reviews of Ken's V-cap Dock (6moons.com and Tone Audio are scheduled to have reviews out later in the month... hopefully)put it up against some "real" sources... really good ones because when using lossless or WAV files, the iMod + V-cap Dock combo kicks the arse of much more expensive dedicated CD players and dac combos... especially in terms of musicality. Gotta hear it to understand.

I am getting closer to 100 hours on mine and it sounds very juicy, let sinking my teeth into a juicy piece of fruit and letting the juice roll down my chin. The sound has FLAVOR!

Oh yeah, it also looks and feels like it sounds... very classy!

I want my sound to be juicy too! Too bad I also want my wallet to be fat.

The 5.5 iMod with VCap dock sounds better than my Rotel CDP, I can attest to that. The Rotel is not the highest-end cdp out there, but it was almost $1K a few years back, has high-qual Burr-Brown DACs, HDCD decoding, etc. And the iMod+VCap is definitely better.

I presume full review is impending ... ! (and a preemptive thanks)

Just wondering what you are using as associated components? Are you listening through headphones or a speaker set-up?

I prefer the sound of the iMod + Vdock playing lossless files over the Sony 555ES when playing CDs. However, when playing SACDs, the Sony beats the pants off the iMod, but that isn't a fair or valid comparison. In the fair comparison using CDs and lossless, the iMod+Vdock is actually a little more transparent, and has a smoother presentation, while being just as detailed (or maybe just a little more). The Sony has the slightly more vivid soundstage, though (probably mostly due to the more forward overall sound).

Should receive mine in a couple of days, can't wait. I will need to get some burn-in time on the dock; I presume there is no problem connecting the dock to the mains and leaving the ipod on repeat?

Hi lextek,

I am mainly using the iMod + Vcap dock combo as the source for my 2-channel home audio system, which also consists of:

Red Wine Audio Signature 30 (http://www.redwineaudio.com/Signature_30.html) or Signature 70s, and the new DeVore Fidelity "Nines" speakers.

I am also playing the iMod + Vcap dock combo with a prototype headphone amp driving a pair of AKG 701s

Yes, this is what I recommend, but make sure that the output of the dock is also connected to a load (i.e. your headphone amp) so electrical current will actually flow to burn in the caps.

Best regards,

Vinnie

When you make the aluminum version how will it connect to the iPod? Will it have a dock connector built-in or will you need another cable to hook it up. You wouldn't be able to use the iMod cable because that would defeat the purpose of it. Thanks.

Sweeeeeeeeet

Ken,

Great work on the v-cap dock, it really is a beautiful piece of work.

I too would be interested in a portable / less expensive v-cap solution also.

So far, you and Vinnie have done a fantastic job with the 5.5G iMod.

As usual, keep up the great work.

Hey Steve,
Thanks! Yeah Vinnie has been great and had been really helping me navigate many of the technical details. I am so looking forward to getting the less expensive version of the large cap dock for the iMod. I am workin on it.

Thanks

Ken
