iMod Vcap dock & PORTABLE Vcap Dock - Info and Talk Soup - Page 10

Looks good Ken. One question though - is the cable that comes with the V-Cap the same pin configuration as the iPod Line Out Dock? Are they interchangable? Thanks.

... and what's the pedigree of the included cable?

With a tiny amp like a XIN the whole package could probably be roughly iPod-sized.
great idea!

squeeze a supermicro inside there & its game on.

The way this works is that you have your 5th gen iMod, and you take any iPod line out dock to mini cable (with the L/R/Gnd pins enabled) to connect the iMod to the V-Cap Dock. Then, you'll need another cable, such as a mini to mini, to connect your V-Cap Dock to any amplifier with a mini input. Alternatively, you can use the RCA outputs to output to an amplifier with RCA inputs, or you can mix and match RCA-to-mini and vice versa, and it should still work fine.

As I understand it, the V-Cap dock includes an iPod Line Out Dock to Mini cable, so the only other cable you'd need to supply is the output from the V-Cap Dock.

It is important to note that you do NOT use an IMOD Line out dock cable here, with the built in black gate caps inside. I don't know if this is harmful but it is certainly redundant. Instead, the V-cap dock houses the capacitors, so basically you just need a "wire" from the iMod to the caps.

Looks great, Ken!
Thanks that makes alot of sense just one question (sorry about my ignorance) but what does (with the L/R/Gnd pins enabled) mean?

Thanks again,

Izzy

Hey, a great document from iPod Linux on the dock connector config will give some technical info. The line out dock needs to have 3 pins enabled. There are a ton of other pins, but none of these matter as long as they are not enabled. All the line out dock needs is the Left channel, right channel, and the ground pins. As far as I know.

That definitely goes from portable to transportable. With most amps that will be absolutely huge. At least it's clean looking, very professional, nicely done, just large.

They do look nice! Expensive but nice.

Ken,

Nice work, they look wonderful. As far as sound quality, is it on par with the other vcap docks that you have built?

Interesting idea...even money EFN tackles that one.

Update On The Cable

Here is what a LOD cable looks like with the Vcap dock connected. I am using the super small ipod connector and a modified Neutrik.

Shown with wrap around mini to mini sold separately, also AMP, iMod and Headphones not included.

Again out put is either a mini or RCA, comes with both.

Very nice! and with the dock out a better deal than I originally thought.

Ken, some of us prefer the sound of silver cables. Any chance you could offer the "combo" with either copper or silver cables in the dock out? Thanks.
