Space:1999 was strong competition for Star Trek at one point (and more realistic clothing than Trek). It was from The Thunderbirds creators, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. I consider it one of the better sci-fi series. I only own three television series on DVD and one of them is the "prequel" U.F.O, a personal childhood favorite and set in the far-off future of 1980.

EDIT: Great Misfits of Science vid wakeride74!

Commando Cody was one of my favorites! So much so that when I learned that a real Jet Pack was developed and used successfully, I just had to join that team!

And I did! F107 is the grown-up version of that jet!

Quark was great!! I fondly remember those blond twins.....mmmmm

Sadly, I remember all of them. But I really liked Space:1999.

I don't recall "Automan", "Nightman", or the Nightrider spinoff. "Quark" was freakin' hilarious!

As far as the others, it's easy to forgive bad tv if the chicks are hot enough.

Laz
1. Babylon 5
2. Doctor Who
3. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
4. Star Trek TOS
5. Star Trek TNG
6. Star Trek Voyager
7. Star Gate SG1
8. Space 1999
9. The Twilight Zone
10. The Outer Limits
11. The Time Tunnel (OK for the time)
12. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (OK in the early years)
13. X-Files
14. The Right Stuff (mini-series)
15. The Martian Chronicles (mini-series)
16. Dune (Sc-Fi Channel mini-series)
17. War of the Worlds (good the first year)
18. Battlestar Gallactica (first years, new show degenerated quickly IMHO)
19. The Invaders
20. The Tripods - Season I and II.

Depending on your tastes in high-camp vs. high-tech, Lost In Space, Superman, Fireball XL-5, The Thunderbirds, SuperCar, Buck Rogers of the 25th Century (Mel Blanc's voiceovers for Twiki were priceless).

I'm sure there are more, given a little research. Most of the best got cancelled quickly, so are more difficult to remember.

What about Star Trek DS9 and Star Trek Enterprise??? Those would be at the top of my list. I can't stand Star Trek Voyager. I would love to shoot Janeway.

My chemistry professor was obsessed with Babylon 5. He used to work for NASA. One day at the end of the semester he actually played the game Myst in class "for us" instead of reviewing the material. It was a floating class day and he could either choose to do a course review or play Myst...

I only saw Mutant X from the bad list and it was pretty bad.

Please no discussions if this conforms to or contradicts your religious beliefs, but anyone ever see this show?

I saw Cleopatra once. It was in the same league as Xena and Hercules, almost campy enough to be good, but not quite. Although I think Xena and Hercules were meant to be campy and Cleopatra wasn't. Quark was one of those shows that was meant to be campy as was pretty funny. I think it was a network show though, where offbeat doesn't usually make it. If it was ever picked up for syndication, I never saw it.

Hey! A modern day Crusader!

...haven't seen the show, don't know the plot, but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

DS9 was nothing but a static soap opera. They had to create the Dominion War just to get interest. Same with the Enterprise - never a good concept. How do you show pre-TOS with modern day technology special effects? It just didn't work, and they resorted to the Zindi (sp?) to keep the ratings up. Regardless, it will have the distinction of ending Star Trek on Television.

Janeway was OK when she let her down - and give me a break - you didn't want to watch Jerri Ryan? T'pal was not quite up to that standard in Enterprise.

We've got the box set of Cleopatra 2525, and I have to say that it brings us much joy in its badness. Highly recommended if you think a future with Gina Torres and an endless supply of highly-buffed Xena guest-stars battling each other mostly naked while skydiving down mineshafts can't be all bad.

As for Space:1999, I thought it had a little credibility problem in that they blew up one or two of those "eagle" shuttlecraft per episode, yet never seemed to run out. But credibility problems are legion in this kind of thing, so I shouldn't complain. It had its good episodes and its bad episodes.

You guys obviously didn't watch much tv. This was the worst scifi show ever.

The list is really subjective - of course. I have vaguely fond memories of Automan ("featuring the special effects of Tron") and Manimal in the 80s, and I think they weren't terribly "bad", just standard family programming from that era - Scarecrow & Mrs King with extra FX.

YES!!! Cleopatra 2325 sounds awesome - shame it never made it down to Oz.

I found I actually enjoyed Mutant X, despite the copy&paste nature of the premise. The villain looked exactly like Andy Warhol, which is undeniably cool. It had Buffy-style fights, and the FX were fairly tastefully restrained. The acting and dialog weren't bad. I liked the (digitally-corrected) colour scheme. It was kinda like Alias without the constant bizarre plot-twists.

A fellow fan! I love this show, and rank it at least equal to original Star Trek, but I refuse to buy it until the prices get a bit more reasonable.

Strangely, if I compiled a "worst sci-fi shows" list it would look a lot like someone else's "best-of": Farscape, Babylon 5, Star Trek Next Gen, Firefly. All overhyped humourless adolescent pseudo-profound self-indulgent piffle. So nyah! I liked Enterprise, though (later seasons). And does anyone remember Space: Above & Beyond? I remember it being surprisingly good.
