Hi all,
After posting here about my enthusiasm for Wave Arts Panorama, I decided last week to bite the bullet and fork out the $200 for a licence. For those who don't know, Panorama (amongst other things) uses HRTF to model a binaural environment. You can process wav files using an appropriate host and go some way to emulating a binaural recording using headphones. It is completely sound card independant as all the number crunching is performed within the software itself using your CPU.
I've been refining my ability to use this software for about a week now and I am pretty happy with the results I am getting. I have decided to process all my CDs this way in the future for personal use listening.
I have attached three very small (30 second each) excerpts from my latest CD, the excellent "Russian Nights" CD from Telarc. I have kept the samples purposely small and a maximum of three so as not to tread on any toes regarding copyright.
There are 6 files altogether - a "before" and "after" example for each of the 3 small excerpts. The files with the suffix of "processed" are the ones I have processed through my Acoustica host using the Panorama plug-in.
I hope you like the results as much as I do. Now I listen to my CDs this way with headphones, it is hard to go back to normal stereo.
I should add that these excerpts will only work with IEMs, and any processing such as crossfeed and EQ has to be disabled. I don't think it will work with anything other than IEMs either, as that is what I have optimised it for. I was using Westone UM2's to make these extracts.
