PS Audio power supply question

Hey, all. I purchased a used P500 and was just wondering about a couple of things.

First, it says to use stuff with low wattage requirements on the regenerated outlets and high wattage stuff on the filtered outlets. Am I right in assuming that pretty much any headphone amp, solid state or tube, is going to be in the low wattage department?

Also, you're able to adjust the output voltage. It says that the default setting for the 100 volt model is 100, for the 120 volt model it is 117, and for the 240 volt model it is 220. Is there a reason that the latter two default at a lower voltage? I would think that you would want the two to match.

Yes, allmost all headphone amps can be regarded as low wattage. You should be able too hook up the entire headphone system to the P500 regenerated outlets.

You can find more information at the PS Audio forum at www.psaudio.com (found under Toolbox as I remember).

Well, I got it last night and was flat out blown away. If I run the juice straight out of the wall, I can turn up my amp all the way (when no music is playing of course) and you can hear what sounds like radio static. With the PS Audio, it was DEAD silent. Now, to most people, that probably doesn't sound like a big deal, but to an audiophile... wow.

Bad part is, even though it only used up 8% of the load, it kept overheating. I don't know if it was damaged in shipping or if I was sold a lemon, but it's off to PS Audio's repair center. It's only a $100 repair, but it will be three weeks before I get it back. Guess that's what I get for buying used

Regenerators become warm but it shouldn't be very hot at 8 % usage. Sorry, that you got a damaged unit. I hope you will become satisfied when you get it back! Indeed, the silent background is important and makes the music sound as it should.
